Default Wrong Way?

Itsphonix, that's a call, only you can determine. This spring, with my 03 Z. I went from stock to 3:90 . Didn't really feel much difference. I'm @ 400 rwhp. 11 sec. in 1/4 mi, before gear change. Havn't raced w/ new gearing yet. I imagine maybe 1 or 2 tenths better? That said, now wishing I had gone w/ 4:10's. With your HP @ 100 more than I, and maybe your looking at some more future HP? You may want to reduce your rear gearing or go to an M6 instead of the M12.

Quicksilver, you may want to jump to the 4:10's. You'll be able to get a better ET. and be able to have a better seat of the pants feel. Your going to have to go w/ a good set of strip tires(drag radials) and install a diff/trans strut brace to keep any possible damage to a minimum. Good luck.

With more gear, you are going to blow the tires off of the rear of the car. You will LOSE traction with more gear, unless you tub out the rear and put some huge tires on the back. Your car has 3.45's, which is perfect with your TT setup. I have the stock 3.45's in my TT, and I love it.

If you're consering changing the gears this chart is very helpful. You can enter the gear, tire size etc and it will tell you at what rpm/speed each gearshift and crusing rpm in 6th gear.

http://xse.com/leres/bin/gearratio?t...diameter=25.21

While you might have more traction issues in the lower gears as meadowz06 mentioned but you can pedal the throttle, it's not an on/off switch. The gears should help most up top. Based on my calculations I'll be switching to a 3.90 as it would put me right in the powerband throughout 4th in the 1/4 mile.

I'm sorry that I cannot give any insight to the OP since he is FI; however, the best gear choice for max acceleration in a N/A C5Z is the 4.10 gear.
