Default Z06 windshield

If I didn't have bad luck I would not have any luck at all.
I parked my 2004 z06 under a tree last night, and a big thunderstorm came up overnight, go outside this morning and a HUGE limb is leaning up against the side of my car and my windshield is busted. Son of a....
Anyways, on to my question, I know z06s have different, more expensive windshields, than regular c5s and I have heard that when you get them replaced that the glass companies like to put in the regular c5 windshield not the z06 one. My question is, how can I tell the difference between the two, If I have to I will tell them I want to be there when they put the windshield in just to make sure its the correct one. Dishonesty pisses me off.

There was a discussion on this forum about this a few years ago. I saved the following information.

This info is second hand from other forum members, any update to this would be appreciated:

1)"Here are the numbers that I have for the Z06 windshield (with HUD) ...

If you are ordering it through an autoglass shop it is part DW 1514

If you are ordering from a dealer the GM part is 10315114 and GM list price is $879.90

See below for a picture of what the lower right corner markings are .... The 43R-008008 (or any other 43R numbers) are not a part number .... it is the number of a "safety certificate" issued to show compliance with European standards. The DOT-376 shows the windshield meets US standards.

The correct Z06 windshield will show the line "SHADED HUD 4.8MM"

2)"Heres the deal. They brought out a APTech (OEM Mfg) DW1430 winshield and and an APTech DW1514

Both had the same bugs in the corners, which included the HUD designation, sun shade etc....

The DW1514 cost 900 bucks the DW1430..cost 400 bucks!

Guess which one I went with.."

3) here's the pic of the windshield bug:

Hope this helps or at least attracts the best current info

Good luck...

the 2) is what confuses me.

IIRC the z06 uses a thinner, lighter windshield than the standard c5, I race the car a good bit when I have time and I want the lighter windshield. You say "SHADED HUD 4.8MM" means z06 windshield, not just any c5 with hud then?

Thx for the help.

correct, 4.8mm is also printed along the base, if you can pull up on the faded black plastic cowl, you will see printed along the base of the WS in a few spots

4.8mm is Z06 issue which fits into FRC(from my experience)

You're welcome... that's why I save the stuff I think I may need in the future.

FWIW.... I have an '04 Z06 and I just looked and my OEM windshield bug has the "SHADED HUD 4.8MM" like the one I posted a picture of...

When I had the windshield replaced for the second time this year they couldn't get the one marked 4.8 mm anymore. There was a lot of trouble getting the window trim to seal on the first installation and after a year a second installation was tried. The glass company did the install at the dealer's body shop. After the new installation it still leaked so they had the body shop's Corvette guy seal it. After 20 years he knows a little more about sealing Corvette tops and weatherstrip than the glass guys do. He had to order a special sealing kit from GM with the proper adhesives.

Not C5 related but I had a hellish time getting the glass companies to seal the windshield on the C4. I ended up buying the sealers from GM and doing it myself in my garage. It seems these cars have a unique windshield installation.

Just be glad it was not the rear glass. You dont want to know what it cost new from GM.
