Default blackwing vs vararam?!

i have a 02 auto c5..i currently have a blackwing air filter..if i change to the vararam intake system will i see a big horsepower increase? or its just not worth the money to switch? because i see good gains with this filter, but ive heard vararam performs well shows some really good hp gains ..what you all think?

thanks!

Had a BW, but now have VR. These really suck, but in a good way!

If you have a Blackwing like I do..and if your a DIY kinda guy...try this mod...makes a big difference...

You're basically cutting a square hole in the radiator shroud and adding a plastic scoop to direct the cold air into the Blackwing so it's not pulling in only the hot air from the engine bay...Trust me..It works! You will feel the difference..Here's the link..good luck if you decide to do it..http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/Rad...op%20inst..pdf

If the link no workie...just do a search here on the CF for CAI Mod.

+1 for vararam! I added mine and picked up 4 mph in the 1/4! Yes it was the only change I made to the car

Agreed. If you want one that is proven at the track...VARARAM! Only true ram air design. Others are bottom feeders or suck in hot air from the engine bay.

Be sure to get the Z06 screen as well

I swapped my BW out for a Vararam, and would never go back.

best 255 spent deff. feel a difference and i agree get zo6 screens ... they serve two purposes 1. the protect from small creatures being sucked into ur intake and 2. they look bad @$$ (ok i dont really know about small creatures being sucked into ur intake, but u get the idea)

I've had two Blackwings so far and both have been good filters. However, if you want to get better performance, I do think the Vararam will give you better numbers than the Blackwing.

+2 for the Vararam, but be prepared to do some light fab work if you want it to fit right. Also went from the BW to Vararam, did a lot of data logging with HP Tuners with both systems and my IATs are down a consistant 30 degrees and that's good.

No fab work here and it fit and functions fine.

Nobody I've ever talked to in person has fabbed anything with the system.

Ya, OK! I guess all the stories I've read on here including my own install are just BS. I call fab work when I have to mod it for holes to line up and to make it better. I'm not saying don't buy, I like it. I'll post some pics of what I did to make it right when I get them loaded up in Photo bucket.

I'm a BW fan. Easy on the pocket book while getting increased performance.
