My clutch goes to the floor about every other day. Ive changed the fluid, there is a puddle under the car after i change the fluid. After I pump it for a while the clutch works ok. Is my slave cylinder bad. I have a good independent shop I can take it to, they are honest. What do some of you experienced guys recomend. On a c5 is the tranny hooked directly to the motor, i heard the c6 tranny was in the rear of the car. Im am an a/c mechanic and mechanically inclined, good with wrenches. I replaced a clutch in a mazda truck I had years ago, only because I didnt have the cash to pay someone.I try to fix my own vehicles, but when I get stumped, i take it to a pro.tia
almost certainly the slave cylinder .... transaxle, torque tube
etc have to come out to get to it -- major job / big $$ unfortunately. How many miles on the car? -- might as well replace the clutch at the same time - saves paying for all that labor again later.
I just bought the car 6 weeks ago. It has 43500 miles on it, in immaculate condition . Im just outside of Atlanta, what kind of money are we talkin for a job like this.
Wow, sorry to hear you just got the car and are having this problem. I have a 2000 vert 6 speed with 78,000 on the clock and the clutch is silky smooth. Did you get a history on the car prior to buying it? Sounds like the previous owner rode it hard and put it to bed wet!
Like red said most likly the slave and would be in best iterest to get clutch done at same time. Estimate about 2 - 3k if you bring it to a dealership. Good luck.
It does sound like the slave cylinder is going bad. It is the weakest link in the drivetrain.
Replacement can be done on jackstands in a garage - I've done it in about 12 hours with another guy. If you have a shop do it, expect at least $800 plus the slave - www.gmpartshouse.com - forum vendor and stand-up guy. Be sure to put a remote bleeder in at the same time. about $60 from various CF vendors.
That is why most recommend replacing the clutch while you have it apart. A lot of labor to pay twice. But if your clutch is in good shape, and you don't plan on racing it, leave it alone. My .02.
I'm sure there are several good shops in your area. Search the South East section of the forum.
