My drivers side headlight wouldn't go up. Using the manual **** with the light switch on, I mistakenly turned it clockwise with the headlight down and it made a clicking sound twice as I turned the **** and then the headlight popped up automatically. When I turned the light switch off both headlights went down but, the drivers side light makes a crazy ratcheting sound and the manual **** spins while making this racket for about 3-4 seconds then stops and all is O.K. until I go to use the lights again. They go up fine automatically but, when I shut them off, the same thing happens every time, noisey ratcheting sound and manual **** spins for a few seconds. Is it trashed or ?

Not sure, But the gears are plastic and you might of put a bind on it and it lost a couple of teeth. You can get a stock gear for around 6 bucks at the auto store, Or you can get a brass gear kit and never have to worry about it again.

Definitely the plastick gear(s) are stripped! You can used the unused half of the one in the motor or buy an aftermarket brass gear kit. The C5's are notorious for the gear giving out. Do a search you should find several threads on it.
