I think01 Z06 wheels were fully forged and I know what that is. What does "spin or spun cast" mean? I believe Z wheels after 01 have these type of wheels.....

I remember this from way back when they came out. I think you are talking about the wheels from Speedline that were made by this process...it was a bit revolutionary in the industry at the time because the process could achieve high strength in a thin section, similar to a forging, even though they were made in a type of casting process...spun cast. I would bet that the normally found porosity of regular casting was eliminated, or greatly reduced, to get the material properties up to that of a forging.
Hi There;
in the casting process aluminum or steel is melted & poured into a mold.As this mold cools the grain tends to be disrupted & irregular.This produces small gas pockets or porosity holes which weaken the material.
In the forging process a metal ingot is super heated to a red hot glow & then hammered into a specific shape. This is done by huge costly presses or dyes.The material is thus pressed into the desired shape.The grain is now evenly directional & has a smooth uniform shape & more tensile strength per square inch.This method uses less material & also results in a stronger& more costly wheel.

I know this is a really old Thread, but . . . I was researching a new set of wheels. I was familiar with the spin Forging of a cast wheel from the APEX wheel line but I had never seen the process. Volia! Youtube!
I found it FASCINATING!!
