How would I clean the calipers on a 2001 coupe. They are not the red ZO6 calipers. The calipers seem to be made out of aluminum and have no protective coating and just looked oxidized

Use some brake cleaner to clean all the oil/grease off the calipers. Then take some fine steel wool and go over the calipers to remove any remaining crud off them. Be sure to get all of the steel wool filings off the caliper when you are done. Then if you want the calipers to look better, paint them the color of your choice.
I painted mine with Duplicolor Cast Coat Iron Engine Paint. I also painted the rotors with Duplicolor Cast Coat Aluminum. Don't worry if you get a little overspray on the rotors, it will wear off as soon as you drive down the street.
On the calipers, wait until the paint is dry, then scrape off the CORVETTE letters with a razor blade window scraper.
