Failed inspection, check engine light (CEL) not working
My wife just took our 01 convertible through inspection
and it failed for the check engine light not working.
It did not light when the ignition was first turned on.
Any ideas what would cause this?
If it is just a bulb, what is involved to change it?
Yeah it was weird going from Michigan (no inspection, no emissions, no front plate, no anything... car capitol of the world!) to Virginia (strict state inspection (depending on where you go), emission inspection, 2 windshield stickers required (inspection and local property tax) plus front license plate).
Pretty much hate everything about it... it only costs the honest people money because there are still a ton of old POS clunkers puking blue smoke and ricers with 10000 decibal exhausts all over Virginia... they just go to "their buddies" for the inspections...
Not a fan of all the stupid laws that only hurt the law abiding citizens.
Anyway... yeah I can see that, and that is something I would want to work... hope the previous owner didn't disable it cause it was always on...
My 2000 did the same thing 3 weeks ago for my emmissions inspection. Georgia.
The light did not turn on while he was plugged in so I failed. Everything else passed. Then when he got out and I got in to leave and started the car the light worked. Several times. He re-ran the test and paperwork and passed me.
