Hey guys after eating up my 2nd set of tires in 8 months this year, I'm begining to wonder if the alignment must be compensated for aftermarket rims? My first set was about half worn on the outside, but the insides were down to the metal so I had it realigned and put new tires on. I just happened to look at the tires today, the outside's are about 60% (these 285's spin alot) while the inside is about ready to show cords! What gives here, its aligned to stock specs too!
if the offset is such that it causes the wheels to stick out farther, then you will get additional negative camber with a stock allignment. This is because with that additional distance, it has more of a moment arm on the suspension components. however, i think its going to need to be considerably off in order for the offset alone to cause this kind of wear. is the car lowered? if you are using the stock allignment on a lowered car that could also be the culprit. good luck!
No matter if it is lowered or not, the alignment you need to use will be the same. If you have used the z06 specs, then the more aggressive alignment will eat your tires faster. The offset of the rims should not affect the alignment. Maybe your bushings are worn? Cheers, Indy.
Thanks guys the car is lowered, and has C6 Z06 suspension before it was aligned... It just sucks getting half the life out of my tires when they are expensive as it is!
