i have a 2000 vette coupe with 14000 miles on it. i have not even thought about replacing the tires, until now. how often do the eagle run flat tires need to be replaced.... any information would be greatly appreciated....thanks
It depends what you're using them for.. Since you don't seem to race the car, those are likely fine to roll around the neighborhood once in a while.
If you're looking for a tire with a fair bit of grip, you should replace the tires every few years. After that, they lose some of their stickiness.
I have an 03 with the stock tires. The fronts have a good bit of tread left but I'm thinking of replacing them just in case I need the extra traction some day (panic stop, driving in rain, etc)

When I bought my 04 it had runcraps on it also I took them off about two weeks after i owned it . Put some Nitto's on there the ride was so much smoother and the car drove better. that was me you dont need to change them till they are worn just like any other tire if you can live with the ride
the older a tire gets the worse it comes. i could never imagine driving on a tire more than 5 years old and generally limit my own to 3 years or newer as done by the date casting. as others have mentioned the ride goes south but what really matters is the performance ! the run flats were a very bad tire performance wise to start with and with age they only get worse. a few good choices exist in the stock sizes. the bridgestone re-11 is very sticky but a flagship tire and priced like one. the kumho spt is cheap, performs decent for most stock driving situations and will last longer then the re11 due to it's harder compound. both of these are available in your size and from the tirerack.com

Here's an interesting link to Tire Rack's web site. Tires do age and eventually get cracks and dry rot. Figure out when your tire was manufactured.....
I don't know if your planning on going with runflats or not but, I have Michelin Pilot's PS2 on my car. They were on it when I bought it and I couldn't be happier. Same as the R11, these are Michelin's flagship tire and also priced like one.
If you decide to go with a NON runflat - check out the Toyo Proxes T-1R. I've had two sets, and the first (earlier version of the Proxes) lasted 30K miles. Really good in dry conditions, terrific in wet weather. I think they are an excellent high performance daily driver tire, at about 60% the price of the top of the line replacement tires.
Sounds like the Toyo Proxes T1R is a very cost-effective solution. Quick question, does anybody here have personal experience with the Yokohama S.drive on the Corvette? I have a set of S.drives on my MINI Cooper and I love them, but of course the Corvette is a different beast altogether. Any words of wisdom you have on the Yokohama S.drive will be appreciated, especially since I need to buy a new set of tires for my wife's '01 C5 Convertible and another new set of tires for my '05 C6 Z51 Coupe.
Update - to some extent I answered my own question. Now I remember that I bought the S.drives for my MINI because there were a cost-effective solution, not because they were an extreme performance tire, since my MINI is my daily driver. For softer tire compound with greater performance, it looks like my choice is between the T1R and the Yokohama Advan Sport (and still keeping it in the affordable to me price range).

2001 Covette Coupe driven on weekends in good Southern California weather. Mostly urban, but some desert highways. No snow and garaged during rain if I know it is coming. I removed the factory run-flats and replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 2:
Comfort increased substantially.
Noise reduced substantially.
Less impact over road reflectors etc.
Handles really well, but I haven't pushed the limits.
Carry a cell phone, AAA card and a Slime Tire repair kit just in case.
The tires were expensive, but they really seem to be worth it.

the S drive is great on most any car. it's a similar tire to the kumho spt and offers a great life, fair dry and good wet performance. compared to the RE-11 it's down in the dry but up in mileage
Tire manufacturers wanted 6 years as an expiration, but it was not agreed to. How they are stored/parked matters. Out of the sun (in a garage), they will last much longer.

My DD had Radial T/A's. At abt 80k miles the sidewall of the LF cracked at the shoulder within 6 weeks the belts had shifted and then the tire failed. I should have paid more attention to the warning sign when I 1st noted the crack, my bad.
I put the Michelin Pilot's PS2 on my 2001 C5 and hated them, spongy ride and side roll in hard cornering. Discount Tire pulled them and put GY EMT F1 Eagle GS back on. They ride rougher and are louder on concrete pavement but I believe the car performs much tighter in cornering with them. Got 48000 on first set mostly interstate, extended trip, miles. Thought the Michelins which were well recomended and cheaper would be ok but couldn't get comfortable with them.
