When you see pair of three ton jack stands,or two ton, or what ever, is that the capacity for each,or is it half of what ever the rating is for the two?

It is half. So a set of 2-ton stands each handle 1 ton.

It is for one jackstand. Even if one stand held 1/2 ton each, with four stands thats two tons...the vette ways less than 4,000 lbs.

Jack stands are rated per stand. The manufacture does not know how many stands you are going to use.

Any good stand will have the rating on the stand. Remember no matter what rating is on the stand, placement of the stand is very important!

Regarding placement for a C5 specifically, any tips? I know the owner's manual list jacking locations, however I would like to remove my front wheels and raise it on jack stands to do some work on the corner lights and side coves.
