Drove the Zzzz to the beach a couple of weeks ago and came across an unpaved road on the highway for 2 miles. I notice that I started hearing small rocks banging all over my car. I slowed down to let all of the highway traffic go by but the rocks kept hitting my car. I then started to pull off the roadway but the cars that kept going by was slinging the rocks from the graval road onto my car. I decieded to drive though the gravel road and was crying on the inside that I knew the paint job on my car was getting tore up. When I made it to the beach I looked at my car and saw all of the rock chips in the hood of my car and front windshield.
I called my insurance agent and told him about the incident and he told me I could file a claim if I want my car fixed.
I know a lot of us are very **** about are cars but my Z06 is a 2003 with only 18,000 and didn't have any rock chip damage on the hood or windshield.
Is there anyway I could get the hood fixed without getting the whole thing repainted.
Or should I try to buff out the rock chips if possible.
Some of the rock chips scratched the paint off of the hood.
Dude..what the hell were you thinking driving on a non paved road? Rock chips wont buff out. Maybe just get the hood and nose repainted if there are minimum chips on the fenders and doors. Good luck
I have a friend with a 50th Anniversary that had the same problem. A good paint shop can match the paint. He needed the front fascia and hood repainted. no one can tell.
It's normally the cars coming toward you on a gravel road that throws up the rocks that causes the rock chips.
However, a few years ago returning from the Goodguys show in Des Moines ( pulling my teardrop trailer behind my 29 Model A street rod, a car full of kids passed me on the gravel shoulder going about 20 mph faster than I was doing ( yes, on the shoulder, going the SAME direction I was). The kids went about a mile and turned down a terrible gravel road before I ran him down so I let him go rather than screw up my paint job even more. I had lots of good sized chips and yes, I was really pissed, so I totally understand your pain!

A competent body shop can paint the areas that have the chips without having to repaint the entire car. There may be some blending required on adjoining panels, but that's about it.
