I'm planning to have a local painter do some work on my C5. Since the car will be down for a few days, I was considering having my alternator and support brackets powdercoated. My question is whether this service is routinely performed by pro paint shops or is this a special service that I need to secure separately or the shop can farm out. The answer will determine the order in which I have the work done.
Powder coating is not painting. The process and materials are different. If your painter says he can do it, he's farming it out. Find a good powder coat place. If you have trouble, call a local Harley shop, they'll know of one around.
If your shop has an oven and the powder coating equiptment then they can do it, otherwise he is farming it out. I would find a powder coating only shop. They can even do metallics now. Just had my thin spokes powder coated satin black and they look awesome.

I have used the powder coating process for over 15 years. It is particulary good on under carriage parts and battery compartments ( consider my eight (8) house and starting batteries compartment).
Now there are lots of shops doing powder coating, but back when it was fairly restricted to industrial applications . I discovered a powder coater who was doing lawn furniture , ect. But he was also a hot rodder so that was the perfect situation for me.
Thanks for the links! I checked out a few of their pics and they look awesome. I really like the gloss black intake manifold! I might need to add that to the list.
Anyone know of a good automotive (Vette friendly) powder coater around Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota area?

here is what the PowderCoater did for me:
... and also my brake calipers before I upgraded to Brembos...
I agree based on his website. Only challenge, is I need to try and coordinate this with a local mechanic as I also want to add some new hoses, etc. and I'm hesitant to try and tackle the mechanics on this myself.
