Hey guys I got this DTC code today while driving to Dallas from San Antonio...
DTC P1870 Transmission Component Slipping
I'm home now and wondering what I need to do to get it fixed ASAP because I need to drive back to San Antonio on Sunday. I just put in a new PCM from ECS that firmed up my shift points. Did that contribute? What is wrong ? My car shifts really hard between gears 1-2... its an Auto.

It is quite possible that the trans couldn't take the increased line pressures and is now slipping and if that is the case you will be looking for a rebuild.
Good luck.
Mr.Bill
The code went from a C to an H and the car hasn't been acting up at all today. I reset the code and the CEL went off. Is this just delaying the inevitable or could it be ok? I'm waiting on a response from ECS. Any other suggestions???
I'm praying this doesn't mean a new transmission... I've only had the car 2 months and that expense is definitely not in my budget

All you can do is try it and see, Does the car feel fine? Did it ever feel like it was slipping?
Yesterday it slipped a little in heavy stop and go traffic in downtown Austin. If I drive slow and make it work in and out of first gear now though there is no slipping. Is it possible that it was a one time thing?

unless the code comes back I wouldn't get too worried about it. Drive careful for a while just in case.
If you do have to rebuild I'd go all the way and get an RPM tranny. Then you'd never have to worry about it again.

Hate to say it but if it slips "once in a while" you will needing a tranny in the near future.
It does not get better on its own.
Honestly this is why a keeping harping on the quality of Mail Order tunes.
If the line pressures were bumped up too high it would result in too hard of shifts and the subsequent premature failure of the clutches.
Reading some other stuff, says the slipping will usually occur when the trans fluid is above 200 fahrenheit. This means I need to replace the TCC valve body? Would this help? Should I just take it to my nearest GM dealership and have them look at it and replace that? Also, would it help at all to get my PCM reprogrammed back to stock? I'm really looking to find the cheapest way to fix this issue. I could care less about HP and performance now and just want general quality...
If I need a new transmission... where should I get it from ? How much will it cost? If I have an automatic can I switch to manual? What would be the cheapest route?

Do you have the original PCM? If so, I'd pull the ECS and put the original back in and hope there isn't enough clutch/band damage to grenade the tranny. I think it is safe to say the service life has been shortened with the new PCM.
Jeez! Do you think the trans slipping is directly related to the mail order PCM? Could a tuner fix the issue?
Should I try to take my car to a GM dealership or somewhere else to have the problem analyzed? I tried places today and everyone was too busy... looks like I'll be driving back to San Antonio tomorrow and attacking the situation there
Somebody that knows jump in here. Does the C5 A4 have a shift cable on it like the C4 A4 (cable runs along side the driver's side of the intake on the L98)? I had a C4 with shift issues and cured them by adjusting that cable.
Someone who knows if it does might be able to describe how to make the adjustment if there is one. It's worth a shot.
