I have a squeal in my c5 coming from around that tensioner pulley in the front passenger side of the motor. I have talked to people who replaced that pulley and the squealing didnt go away. Its not always it comes and goes, any ideas?
I could just be the belt. When it's running drop a few drops of water on the belt and see if the squeal goes away. if it does then get a Gatorback belt and you should be good to go.

This would be the first thing I would try. Had the squeal on my '98. Would do it when cold and quit when warmed up. Replaced the tensioner pulley but still had it. Put Gatorback belts on, no more squeal. Son-in-law had it on his '00. Put the GBs on and squeal gone.

remove the lower belt ( runs A/C)
drive the car... if it still squeaks the problem is on the main serpentine.
If it does not the problem is on the A/C system belt
Hand spin each pulley... they should spin easily, not wobble and not feel grtitty. IF one is not spinning as it should that is your culprit.
If you still can't find it it is either the harmonic balancer or the A/C compressor clutch ... you will know which of the two depending on the squak/no squeak answer when you ran with only the serpentine belt.
