Fun at the Track!!!

The first even we entered was Flat Out Laps. You paid $10 to run their 12 turn 1.6 mile track with one of their instructors as a co-pilot. I now know why the OEM GYs are called runcraps! The lack of grip was unnerving to say the least! So I couldn't run as fast as I would have liked, also the instructor, Bob (heck of a nice guy, more on that later) was spewing instructions and advice at me and I couldn't hear him with the helmet on and the window down!
It was a blast none the less!!!! Here's a few pics of me and my Brother in law running my Vette around the track.This was the scariest turn, it's over the crest of a hill and you can't see it until you pop over at full throttle. 8.5 on the Pucker Meter!

Random shots;

Then on to Flashlight Drags... I've never drag raced before and I have to say that it was a blast! I wasn't going to do it and we were watching the fun when Bob, my copilot joined us with his wife. Very nice lady! Well one thing led to another and I think he challenged me or I challenged him... Dunno! Anyway he has a Mustang GT and also never dragged before. Race one and two I beat him...
You can see me utilizing all my strategy and know how in this shot, I leaned over and started calling him dirty names and that his car was ugly!

Race 3 I went up in smoke but tied him;

Our final go, I spotted him a car length and spun halfway down the 1/8 mile track, he won that one!

Met a fellow CFer there also, Chuck (EDIT His name is Gregg!!!!!) I believe with a beautiful MY;

I WILL be back there again!
Hope you enjoyed the pics, Bill K I have the RAW files if you want to clean them up for me!

No, it was pretty informal... You pay $25 and run as often as you want, just get back in line. No eliminations or winners. A lady stands in front of you with a Flashlight and when she turns it on you go.
I think they market it as street racing without the fines or something...

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Anybody in the area (W Pa.) should come to one of these events. Nice track, smooth and challenging. Now I'm looking to upgrade my brakes and do it again.
Hope to see you there again. Great pics !
Gregg

I work there - and I let TStar know about it and we figure to meet up there - and then I get called out of town and have to cancel.

So, I get back to town, go to work at the track today (the first pic in the series is the corner I always work - and he's right, it is a serious "pucker" one - or, even worse, gotta' pull into the pit to change pants!
You can just imagine what it's like for motorcycles there!
(of course, those riders are that way anyhow!
).I also heard today that someone in a Corvette was in the Flashlight Drags and had an unplanned tow job because he spun out on the return lap and ended up over the hill and into the woods. I certainly hope it was not TStar!!!! (but then again, I'd never wish that on ANY Corvette!).
I'll make it a point to keep the brothers posted regarding future events like this at the track - good reports from all that I've heard!

pics of all the action.

Anyway, it was a pleasure meeting you!! Hope to meet you there again someday, after I get my Vredsteins... Maybe we can get an All Corvette Day set up!!!

Very VERY fun! If you look at the pic you'll see some nice marks heading off into the grass! We'll meet there Brian... I'll be back for some Flat Out days or the regular classes, maybe even the 007 experience!!!!! Like Gregg said, Brakes upgrade! I felt a little fade at the end, nothing bad BUT I wasn't runnig hard either... No doubt I need tires though!
Not sure which Vette went off the track, it could've been the yellow C3 with the sidepipes, he looked to be setup for drag racing and not twisties.... Hope he and his Vette are alright! There was a Husband/Wife team racing each other that were running ***** to the wall in a Red C5 Lingenfelter and a Silver C6 Lingenfelter respectively!!!!!! Now that was cool to watch, those Maggies sounded pretty mean!
All in all Corvette was very well represented that day!

PS Next time you guys have an Octoberfest, I highly recommend you at least sell some Bratwurst and Beer for crying out loud!!!!!

The whole experience was excellent, the instructor co-pilots did their best to make sure you made the most out of it. I'd say they did a great job, as I was smelling my brakes quite a bit! They also had Autocross and Gymkahana (sp?) events open to everyone as well... Didn't have the time or gas for that though...
Thanx for the kind words on the pics everyone, I know they aren't the best and come no where close to depicting the speed we were actually running... Everyone really should do this at least once!

Tim, I agree on the B&B!

Now go get some decent tires and really let loose.
