Help...Steering Column Lock issue
I am facing the dreaded Service Steering Column Lock issue. When I start the vette I *can* turn the steering without any problems and the battery is brand new, but the car dies after it hits 2mph (I have an A4, 98). My questions:
1) Since the steering is not locking does that mean that the recall has been performed?
2) Since fuel shutoff has commenced, will the problem be resolved by installing a CLB?
3) What is the best fastest way to fix this problem and clear the code?
I have read the sticky (sorry if I missed anything) but just looking for specifics pertaining to my situation. I don't want to take her to the stealership. Please help!!!
Thanks!

1) Since the steering is not locking does that mean that the recall has been performed? Most likely yes. Get a copy of the GM VIS for your car from a dealer (should be free) and look in the CLAIM HISTORY section to see what services GM has picked up the tab for including the 04006 recall.
2) Since fuel shutoff has commenced, will the problem be resolved by installing a CLB? Again most likely. Some of the early (1997 - 2000) cars do not respond properly to a CLB. Most do but a few do not and there is no advance way to know whether yours will work with a CLB. If it does not you will have to have the PCM reprogrammed by a tuner with either HP Tuners of EFI Live tuning software to set the fuel shutoff speed to a very high number like 255mph.
3) What is the best fastest way to fix this problem and clear the code? The best way to clear the codes is to disconnect the battery cable for at least 10 minutes after you install the CLB. If the codes come back after that you need to find that tuner with EFI Live or HP Tuners.
