I was coming back from a cancer benefit and my RPM's were going at like 4,000....but i could only do 40 mph. I called my mechanic Willie Wiggins out of Vanceboro, NC ( a helluva nice guy who after my having made it to his shop, gave me a ride home) This happened friday night so i didnt want to bother him over the weekend.
I pulled over ( i was already stuffed with a huge bbq plate from the cancer benefit...to date we rasied over 10 K in one day...i was going to the bike run on the 11th....follow the motorcycles in my vette....but obviously this didnt happen and i am now driving my 4 wheel drive which is great on hunting, coon and deer...but loved gas 6-8 mpg.....i miss the 26 highway and 16-17 city.... :-(
Well, i waited in a parking lot for 30 mins, and ALL temps were normal the tranny was a little warmer than Willie recommended, so i turned the AC on low and it went down to 207...amsoil in it, RP in the engine.
Sometimes the RPM's would kick up, and the 40 mph would do it again...but...luckily it wasnt overheating and i was only 15 mins from ******* Shop in Vanceboro, NC. What a super guy he is.
Your opinions please, is it the torque converter, rev limiter (sp) (the high tans temp came on twice and it was only 238, highest it got was 244 when i pulled over.
I know you really cant tell w/o putting your hands on it, but maybe some past experiences and/or other mechanics might have an idea...I miss my baby and its only been three days.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
BTW, i dont have the amt raised from the biker benefit yet, but i am guessing it met or exceeded the 10K we got for the bbq plates.
I am assuming you have a A4 since you mentioned the troque converter. I would say you need a new transmission.
Yes i have a a4 i forgot to mention that...it wasnt slipping or anything i forgot to mention...he is a good friend and is going to work with me and look out on the pricing end. He is just a good ole country boy....he has over 10 vettes he is working on currently, including a 99Z51 black FRC, w a 100 shot of nitrous, the guy is moving back to up north and has to have it done by weds.
Before you give up, have the mechanic check the fluid level. Of course you would see fluid under the car if you have a big leak, but it might just have dribbled out over time. It a cheap check, and MIGHT save you an overhaul as the symptoms you describe could also be low fluid.
Parts of it are good, parts are bad...i am just going to do with making it bullet proof...and i hope ot have it back by the 25th of OCT...as i have plans...BIG plans...
I beat cancer recently, so this is a minor setback and is cheaper than radiation therapy!!!
Wow congrats on beating cancer! This sounds like a minor setback... take it to a reputable transmission shop that have experience working on c5's... chances are it will need to be rebuilt so it's bulletproof... but the mechanic will more than likely know the issue once they diagnose the issue.

Yes indeed, mine was stage one and caught early...ironic thing was, I was on my home from helping to raise money for a cancer benefit. I was just glad my C5 let me make it there. I would of tried to walk home.
A gentleman by the name of Bobby works on then out of Kinston, NC and is said to be a guru on our C5's trannys...making them virturally bullet proof. Its almost like seperation anxiety brother....I miss bumble be so bad!
Thanks for the positive words and encouragement, it means more to me than you will ever know.
i had my local cheby dealer get a detroit rebuilt for me 7-07
for 1425.00. for my 99 if u need more info ghammack@charter.net.
god bless and good luck
I bought a GM rebuild when mine went south back in 2007. I chose this over some of the other options because of the the 3 year 30,000 mile warrenty that came with it.
