u just said a mouth full.. good choice of words
these guys on this site are great and they can answer any of ur questions.. im still a noob so
97-00 you could probably find for that price. The horsepower on those was 345. HP was bumped to 350 in '01 thanks to the LS6 intake. You can probably find a good low miles '01 for around $18-$20k. Basicly if you are going to mod the car I would go with an '01 or newer just to get the LS6 intake, since its a $350 to $650 mod later, price is used versus new. Just my 2 cents. Good luck on the hunt and welcome to the club!
Most people say that it is actually more than 5 HP. The LS6 intake should add about 15 so that would put it to 360HP thats getting close to the Z06 so some people say thats why it went from 345 to 350 and the LS6 makes other mods work better, cold air intake, headers, catbacks, etc.. all I'm saying is to me if it came between an '00 and an '01 for a thousand more I'd get the '01. Oh the sway bar endlinks on the '00 are plastic and the '01 up are cast aluminum other than that there could be other subtle differences but no major ones.
torque was the main factor i beleive with the ls6 intake. 5 hp and 20 lbs-ft torque added. and btw i think you should be able to find a pretty decent 97-00 for around 16K. just keep lookin!
You really can't go wrong with any C5.. look for the HUD option and (imo) stay away from the adjustable suspension. It's just a pain when you want to upgrade suspension later on.
Do a search and a lot of reading. You'll find lots of information.
Now is great time to buy a C5, any year, if you can afford it. I wouldn't pass up a clean well maintained 97-98 if its the right price. You can upgrade the intake pretty cheap because a lot of people sell their LS6 intake for a FAST or something similar. Don't forget to look at tires/brakes when making your purchase. Good luck
i don't want to sound stupid here, but the goal is to buy the best (read here newest, lowest milage, cleanest, etc) car you can find within your budget.
is there a difference year to year, yes, should it matter if you found a "perfect" 00 and a not so perfect 02 for the same price maybe not depending on the differences in the physical cars. make sure to pull (or get from the dealer) a carfax that will give you at least a good idea about the service of the car. my personal opinion is to buy a non modded example as opposed to a modded unit. chances are the non modded car was driven easier than the modded one, and you can do the mods yourself as you choose (or choose not to) to your liking.
ya thats exactly what i was thinking....but was there any interior changes between 97-04?
Nope.. other then a shale (I think it's called shale) color in one model year.. other then that, no differences in interior throughout the C5 years. With that in mind, there are many GREAT vendors on this site that can "fix" your interior to almost anything you would like, whether it is a double Din radio/nav unit or different seats, carpet, pedals, etc...
As for your "looking" for what year C5 to get.. Get the car that has all of the options you want, with the lowest mileage and best condition you can find. With a car that is at the least 6 years old (almost) upgrading to today's standards is just a mod and some $$ away!
