here is the link. I would also check NADA. They are usually a little more accurate.

Here is the NADA link. I think they are both a little high. The market is soft right now especially in the northeast with winter coming!!

What its worth and what the seller gets are 2 different stories.. We are in a really bad recession right now... Its a buyers market.. People don't have jobs or are underemployed, so they start selling things to scale back, so what you see are lots of vettes out for sale and not enough people buying them up because of the economy.. When the economy comes back and companies start hiring people instead of laying off, more folks will feel comfortable about going out and spending money on big ticket items. Unfortuneatly its simple economics right now, More sellers than buyers..

try Edmunds.com as well. They give you a lot more specific input than KBB.

FWIW as a data point: I purchased an '04, 13k miles, original owner, black/mod red (new tires) for $26.7 last month.

It's a buyers market....

This is exactly how sellers/buyers get mislead. They don't read the fine print.
KBB says right under the price that it's a "suggested starting point for negotiation between a buyer and a dealer". So when a seller spots that price on KBB and elsewhere, they conclude that's the price it's worth cause everyone else is asking that price (or more).

Two months ago I noted that KBB had the suggested starting price for a 04 Z06 at 28,345 dealer retail. And Private Party Value at 24,845.
Private party sale represents what you might expect when you purchase from a private party & what you might expect to receive when you sell to another private party.

Keep in mind that dealers must absorb the cost of making the car vehicle-ready. Their overhead is much higher than a $50 ad in the auto trader by a private party.

Prices are all over the map on these cars. But the ones that sell quickly are the ones priced based on market conditions & the location of sale. Those cars last about a week.

Heck, a little over 2 yrs ago I spotted a 03 Z06 w/13K miles one owner for 30. So a year later (in 2008) you'd expect that of a 04, right? Wrong! Today, you'll find plenty of 04 prices still at 30, more than a year later. You will even find 03's at 30 today. The recession seemed to have no impact on these asking prices. Either they're holding their value year after year or the value will drop to bottom right after you buy one. It can't last year after year.

So if you go by KBB, they suggested 25 being a reasonable price PPV on a 04 Z two months ago. You can also try Edmunds.com which has current private party at 22,298 and 24637 Dlr for 04 Z06.

Mid-way somewhere between 22,298 and your 29,000 is the bottom line. And that would be my own suggested price PPV with much lower mileage. 25 max in my book for a 04 Z. 26 max if it has a yr of GMPP left.

Pay attention to what the man above me just said.

It's extremely frusrating when looking for a car on the private market and everyone is asking for dealer retail.

If I wanted dealer retail, I would buy from a dealer as all the paperwork is done for me and it's far easier.

3 years ago I bought my '01 Zo6 for $25.5k and it was a good deal at the time... My how times have changed in 3 short years. Heck, now I'm married with a new born son! Never saw that coming either.

I wonder what a 50k mile Zo6 will bottom out at. Personally I don't see them going below 16-17k.... and then strong inflation will kick in (predicted to start 2nd quarter'10 from all the money being printed) driving the numbers up over time..

I've been watching the market on these cars because I'm about to buy after Christmas. What I'm seeing for $27K you should be able to get your choice 03-04 w/under 20K miles.

There is no shortage of people out there with 03/04Z's with a $30k+ asking price and they set there for months on Auto Trader. What some of the guys don't seem to under stand is a lot of buyers are seeing C6 Vettes that come from the factory with Nav, Xm. ect for the same money, same horse power and existing warranties.

There also seems to be a lot of C5 Zo6 guys that were buying brand new cars back in 04 for mid 40's. I've seen claims from owners online that bought new Zo6's for as low as 42k.

I had to drive 20 hours round trip to get my Z06 less than a month ago.....

for an 02 with 2800 miles it was worth the asking price, which was just a tad higher than NADA but with that low of miles its like buying a brand new 50k car.

I say depending on how nice it is and miles would determine which way you go from the baseline KBB price point.

Dealers use NADA for used car value. Give it a try.

Good Luck

Keep in mind though, you will never see the dealer edition unless you are a dealer. You will only see the consumer edition. The numbers also show wholesale prices which is where the dealer wants to be closest to when considering your trade if you have one.

Also, a dealer buys cars at auction. His goal is to buy cars "back of book", meaning less than wholesale price. When you buy from a dealer, they have a LOT of leeway between what their asking and what they bought it for.

I agree with Dave and will add what anything is worth is what the seller and buyer agrees to. The situation determines who gets the deal. Obviuosly Barrett-Jackson is the purest forum for a sale. The guy who has kids and just got laid off is compromised in his position.

Kelly Blue book is for the dealer .
