Ok so it has been raining non-stop for almost two weeks. I Just bought a new targa top and it didnt match up prefect and leaked a little well it stopped raining today, so I went out side to adjust it and dielectric grease the weatherstripping. and I noticed right away, right smack in the middle of the passenger door were 3 or so scrathes about 7 inches long, so I flip out then I get myself together, when go to go on the other side of the car to apply the grease on the weatherstripping I notice the rear bumper has been hit with slight scratch marks from another bumper. (All of this was unnoticeable since it has been raining on it all week long, but it was surely not there before) I'm wondering how much this is going to cost and if I should report it to the insurance company. (I don't need higher insurance rates) I have a 500 dollar deductable on comprehensive. Now my corvette isn't perfect but come on!
Too bad about your car. I keep hearing stories like this and get nervous whenever mine is out in a parking lot and I am walking back to it thinking to myself "did anybody vandalize it?" Good luck so far but you never know what could happen. Almost makes you want to not have nice things.
While I feel bad for you and am by no means making light of the situation, I must point out the silver lining here. Your car is black (assuming that is your car in the avitar). This means that a body shop can "panel paint" the door without having to blend to get a good color match.
If the car was silver or some other hard to match color you would have to pay for the de-trimming of the door (trim panel, handle, mirror, belt molding) loosen front bumper (in order to blend into the fender), and loosen rear bumper (in order to blend into the quarter panel). Basically you would be repainting the whole side of the car in order to get a seamless repair. Being black though the color will match beautifully by just painting the door.
Good luck with repairs and I hope it never happens again.
Man that suck big time!! With that deductible and insurance companies track record of sticking it to customers,,it puts you between a rock and a hard place!! Good luck!!

Its exactly what I wanted to hear. I just ordered new wheels last thursday which set me back alot. So I was hoping it would be a **** load of money.
Since you don't know who did this or where it happened, I would keep the insurance company out of it. You would probably only "save" a couple hundred depending on where the car is repaired, plus it gives them an excuse to raise rates and eat away at whatever savings you received.
Find a good local pro painter and as mentioned, the black paint should help keep costs down. Explain what happened and that you are paying directly vs. insurance. Plus, ask for a "cash only" discount. That helps keeps repair costs down as well. Good luck!
BTW - this kind of crap happens all the time. I drove my verte to pick up some dry cleaning and my daughter stayed in the car listening to the radio. When I returned she told me that two punks had pulled up and parked next to me in the parking lot. Since we had the top up and the windows are tinted, I guess they didn't see her sitting in the passenger seat. Anyway she told me Punk #1 told Punk #2 that he wanted to "key this bitch". That's when they noticed my daughter in the seat, laughed and kept moving. Unfortunately (for me) they left before I returned to the car. It's getting to the point that I only want to drive it Corvette/auto shows/events.
I noticed that someone had backed into my rear passenger quarter panel a couple weeks ago. I was able to buff most of it out but there are still cracks.
I have 0 deductable on my insurance, but it's not worth it to get it repaired currently. You can barely tell anymore.
