I immediately installed a CLB, second relay bypass, and tuned the fuel cut-off to 255 mph. Murphy's law states it there's going to be a problem, you'll be 500 miles from home. Better to play it safe...
I had a 2000 Coupe m6, never had an issue. Traded the 2000 in on a low mileage 2001 Z06 back in July. Made plans with friends to do the Kerbeck Toys for Tots Run on October 10. On the 8th, I went to pull out of the garage...DIC said remove key and wait 10 seconds. Tried it, then said service column lock. Lucky I was still in my garage and I found a forum member who over nighted me the CLB kit.
Before doing anything, I called my local Chevrolet Dealer. They told me it would be covered but they would not cover the tow. I purchased out of state so going back to the Chevy Dealer in Maryland was not an option. Thought about it for a second, $75.00 for tow...somebody getting to beat on my Vette or $40.00 stays in my garage safe and sound ....it was a no brainer. Install was about 15 minutes. Just do it and be done with it.
I had it into the dealer last week and they told me it didn't apply to my car. How can I tell if it does or doesn't or if the bypass is already installed?
So true............I had the CLB for months and kept putting it off. Got the message to pull the key....the column did not lock so I was lucky.
The next day I installed the CLB...bette safe that sorry.
You know it going to happen when you are on a long trip or drive.

Is there an easy way to find out if one has already been installed (by previous owner)?

Hey... why PM when I am sure others here would like to know if there is a way to find out if someone already has it installed from a previous owner (including me...)?

My '03 doesn't need anything done to it, but when I had my '00 I waited about 4 years before I ever installed the CLB. Never had a problem but was worried I was pushing my luck.
When I bought my 99 the previous owner had either the CLB or the recall done because my steering column won't lock. I'm not sure which one, but so far so good. I still occasionally get the "pull key and wait ten seconds" message but it's always cleared and to date I've not had any problems. Knock on wood
My 03 MN6 did not have any recalls performed when I bought it back in April. The car never had any column lock problems. But that typical column lock motor and actuator sound was making me very nervous every time I started the car. I went ahead and installed a CLB. No problems with the install and no more column lock motor sound. I feel a lot better and have a lot more confidence in the reliability of the car. That feeling is priceless.

Had the GM recall done awhile back on my '01 but no CLB. However, I make it a point of not locking the steering wheel and NEVER use the steering wheel to help me get in or out of the vette. First time I've also answered a CLB type post...now I'll probably get locked
