I have been looking for this rattle for a long time. I was getting ready to honk at someone...had slight hand pressure on the horn...rattle went away! So, now after all this time of looking how do I fix the issue? If anyone has a rattle and cant find it....check your wheel!
Mine is rattling after I added a steering wheel cover, I guess from pulling the thread tight a couple hundred times. It goes away if I put pressure on the top half of the wheel. I've been slowly making it better by tryin gdifferent things but next up I am going to pull the column cover and see what exactly is rattling.
Do you have any advice or was yours more simple than that?
It goes away if I put pressure on the top half of the wheel.
I have the same thing. I have even opened my steering column cover up and taken the kick panel off and looked around and zip tied some things that looked loose, but it's still there.
I have the same "issue" that seemed to start shortly after the stealership "fixed" my locked column. I've heard that sometimes they loosen up the lock plate so the pin doesn't get stuck again. My theory is that the plate is now too loose and rattling.
I've never seen what the "plate and pin" look like so my theory isn't based in fact necessarily.
Hmmm think there is a way to diagnose/adjust that without pulling the steering wheel off?
I definitely think it's in the steering column somewhere. Was rattling pretty bad last night and I flipped the column tilt lever and let the wheel all the way up and it stopped completely.
