the original f1's were/are great when they're newer and have tread. stick like glue. in my experience, lousy in rain, even when new(er). i got about 23k or so miles out of mine.
now have michelin ps-2's. so far so good. significantly better in rain.
I'm not overly concerned about rain as I have four other vehicles and the C5Z is just a toy. I liked the F1 SCs, but they are pretty noisy and have spooked me a couple times on hard transitions. I would buy them again if there are no better alternatives...
I read the PS2 thread, but thought that they were more of a street tire versus a street/track tire. I don't mind spending some coin on stuff if it is noticably better than the competition. Thanks for all the replies!

The only time I've seen them at autox's or at the road course in the past 7 years is on a few Porsche's. For the common person they are too expensive for track use.
For cheap good sticky street tire Nitto NT05's or Falken 615's. If you want to spend a little more the Kumho XS's are a great tire too.
Nitto Invos are a good choice for the street but no one runs them at autox's or at least competitively.
agree with all this {the 615 and xs are 315 30)
if you were to choose between the nt05, xs and 615 the 615 would be the first to go; so the real choice is xs or nt05. to make the decision i would ask yourself if you want 295 35 18 or 315 30 18, your choice picks your tire
the nt01, ra1 and sport cup are also great choices but really need to be warm to offer the outstanding grip they are capable of. treadlife is also in the 7-10k mile range.
Try looking into BFgoodrich KD's Car and Driver did a series of tests and rated them #1 in straight line dry acceleration, they did rather poorly in rain though. If you plan to use them in rain look at the BFgoodright KDW2's, they are almost as sticky but do better in rain, and they look really cool.

Awesome input and very helpful! Will the Nitto 315s sit on the 10.5 rim correctly with the correct contact-patch? Does Nitto make a 265 in the NT05 for the front? Thanks again!

I won't be using the car in the rain, so no biggie there. How does the BFG KD handle cornering? Thanks!
If you dont care how long the tires last, get Kumho MXs. The prices are pretty reasonable compared to most other brands and for the money they grip very well and looks great. For stock applications, you should be able to pick up a set from Discount Tire for less than $1000.

I never cared for the MX much.. they used to flat spot overnight and would vibrate like hell until they warmed up and assumed the 'round' form again.. (about 8 milkes)... also got pretty noisy after 10,000 miles.. but they dont cost that much; which is always a plus!!!
The best budget tire I tried was the Firestone wide oval... (although I have yet to try the T1R Toyos - those are supposed to be pretty good for what they cost!!)

If you liked the Wide Ovals you will absolutely LOVE the Nitto NT05's or Kumho XS‘s.
For anything other than daily driving the Wide Ovals and Toyo T1R's are garbage. The reason vette owners like those two so well is mainly the cars handling and that the tires contact patch is so wide.
I think that I am going to try the Nitto NT05 and see how that works out. It won't be for a couple months as I am still in Kuwait, so I'll be sure to lurk all the tire threads and ask questions as needed. Thanks again for all the input and feel free to add more.

I mostly agree.. thats why I run the PS2's on my car... But the Wide oval is a great wet tire for teh track.. that thing pumps some water!!
havnt had good luck with any of the Korean tires in the past 10 years... i've learned my lesson.
