Looked at a 2002 ZO6 yesterday and when I was checking the cars noticed the backs of both seats moved back and forth 2-3 inches. The saleman said he had a 2001 corvette and that was normal. Is that true? I have never owned a car--even my 1971 LT-1--where the seat backs moved more than a very small amount--if at all.
Is this normal or are the seats worn out.

Yep! my car did that as well with the original seats. I replaced my seats with an 04 Z06 set up and they still do it. I think it is made that way so you can easily access the release clip on the rear of the seat.
Did you lift the little lever on the upper back of the seat? My o2 has a lever on the upper back and when you lift it the seat folds forward to the steering wheel.
Is this GM's idea of slop tolerance?? I can't believe there is that much movement in the seats when locked. I quess they want your face to have a headstart when it meets the airbag. Seems like pretty crappy workmenship.
I just walked to my garage. I have an 02 Z06 with 12k miles on it. I had to check the seats, the back moves a little but not the base. My 97's entire seat would rock on braking and acceleration.
Both my '04 and '03 Z06 did this. As somebody mentioned, this makes it easier to grab the release lever in back so you can fold the seatback forward. No worries.
That is how the seat was designed. In the 2002 Z06 Owner's Video, the guy's exact words were ''Now there are times when you may notice a little play in the seatback, thats perfectly normal. The seat is designed that way to prevent damage that may be caused by moving the seat rearward when it's fully reclined.''

The seat backs on my '02 Z also move but i was wondering if anybody's seats slide foward a little when braking hard? (I'm talking an inch maybe) I'm not complaining really but it did surprise me a little the first time I got into the brakes hard for a corner. Now I anticipate it and it gives me a little help, making hard braking a little easier.

Yea its normal....
One day I will have my Corbeau A4 seats....
The A4's are "similar" to what Chevy should have put into the Z06 in the first place. Since it was supposed to be a track car right from the dealership.
