Ken's Newsletter indicates that GM is doing away with the gray plastic lug nut covers as part of a recall to be replaced with a stainless steel overlay lug nut (#9595165). The narrative also indicates that this will eliminate the locking nuts and key, but for those that desire to retain the locking feature they will offer a matching locking set part #12341287 thru the GM SPO. Does anyone have any experience with this yet and does anyone know what GM SPO is going to charge for the matchin locking set, any information or comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Yes, not a recall, just a production change, as in a money saving thing I expect. Only have to stock 1 lug nut, no lug cover, no locking lug, no locking lug nut wrench, no locking lug explaination card, no locking lug plastic bag, and NO SECURITY! Funny that they will offer a locking kit as a dealer item(for an additional cost).
The lug nut thing is a production change, which does indicate to me that it is in no way a recall that will effect delivered cars.
The statement from GM also says that the lugs will have a stainless steel overlay, like they used to do on Vega GT's (ok they Vega ones were just some kind of crap metal) - these things were junk - and they would twist off the lug after a few removal/re-torque cycles, leaving you with a 'tweener size that was almost impossible to get back off.
I will not be getting the new ones - besides, the plastic ones gotta be lighter that stainless - the older cars with the "original lugs" will be quicker :D
This will be an oddity for the future, another little trivial fact like the change from forged to cast wheels.
Do they think we are all STOOPID?????? :yesnod:
The reason for this whole charade, is the plastic ones are coming off, and GM is having to replace them for free.......
Just another way to get in your pockets........
Just HOW long @ blackmarket prices for stolen Z wheels do you think your's will STAY on the car?????....................
Good point, my car has less than 900 miles and I already lost two... Just a note, a dab of 3m yellow on the cap keeps them on but still easy enough to remove when you have to.
I had two blow off immediately after picking my car up on the way home. GM replaced them for free. Just ordered a set of HRE 547's from RG at Exit28motorsports and also got locks to go as well hopefully they won't get stolen. By the way RG took very good care of me on my order. Great guy!
