Just took delivery of a 02 Electron Blue Z. Have been lurking around here for a while and your input helped me make the plunge. You all seem very knowledgable about this car and this is one of the better forums I have seen. I do have one question..... does this shifter get better or is an after marked shifter needed and which ones do you all think are best. Thanks to all, I love this car.
I got used to my stock shifter but it still was a POS. Ripper, Kirban, and Hurst are your choices. They are all light years better than the stock unit.
Enjoy the ride.

Welcome and good luck! Awesome car and great color! I have wondered about the shifter myself, especially when cold. I think that will be one of my next alterations/Mod to my C5. Have fun with the car!

Congrats Bruce! You are about 2 weeks ahead of me. I am in the process of buying the same car for the same reasons (plus I'm already a Corvette owner and fan ). This forum in combination with GM's 2002 rebate offer, and the additional 20hp on the Z06 for 2002 led me to cancel my BMW M3 order and go with the Z06 instead. Plus I've been hearing a lot of problems with the M3's M-differential, electrical problems, and maintenance issues with the motor. I hear very few problems at all here with the Z06. With the exception of the tires, the car seems to be fairly low maintenance for a sports car.
Anyhoo - with regards to the shifter, I haven't experienced it yet, but from what I hear I won't like the stock unit. I'm thinking of going with the Hurst, just based on prior experience. I LOVE the Hurst shifter in my '70 big block now, and if its anything like that, I'm sold.
Does anyone here have the Hurst shifter? Any comparisons to the others?
How difficult is it to install a new shifter yourself?
Knowledgable (im gettin there ) thankz to this Forum...yea im gonna change out my factory shifter to...althought im NOT sure what to expect of a shifter and **** upgrade...but well see! :yesnod:
Congratulations, Bruce, and welcome to the Corvette family. :yesnod: Also glad to see you posting here on the CorvetteForum. As you've already figured out, this is a great place to hang around with folks who know and love the only sports car that matters!
Hi Welcome. I'm new-ish too.My own belief about the shifters is that these Z-06's are a race car,and the trans is so chocked full 'o stuff..whew!
