Default Chrome plenum cover problems??

Anyone with the chrome plenum covers have problems with chrome peeling off. Buddy of mine said he thought he read someplace there was a problem. I'm talking about the ones that are fitted to look like the plenum not the flat rectangle ones. Thanks!! Shooter

Unless a bad chrome job it is not that much heat and should not be a problem. I do know some have chromed plastic and that may create a problem down the line but depends on the quality .

I have one of the chrome plastic fitted plenum covers that I got from a Forum vendor, It was on the car less than one hour when it started to blister and distort the chrome finish, and then it started peeling. I contacted the vendor and I have lost track of how many different time's I have been told they are in the process of changing chrome platers, and they will have the problem corrected shortly and I will be sent a replacemnet.
I will say in their defense that he has offered me my money back several times. In turn I told him I liked the cover and still get a lot of comments on it, all I wanted was a cover that didn't have issues like these, and I would wait till they worked out the problems, this has been going on since March.

I haven't actually seen one up close just in some pictures. Are they all plastic or does anyone make others? Thanks

That was one of the reason I wanted to get one of the fitted ones because IMO they look better than the rectangle covers. Thanks for posting.

I have 2. One on my 2000 and one on my 1999. Both are perfect and have been on the cars for 6+ months. No problems.

He ordered his the same time I did, and from the same vendor, RPI Designs, the last time I looked on their web site it still showed the manifold cover, but did not list a price, and there is no provision to order the part, I believe they have suspended the item until they get a handle on the problem with the plater..........

I've got a high polished aluminum Lingenfelter manifold... no worries about cheap chrome peeling off plastic.

Thanks!

Here's a link to a plater that I've done business with in the past (years ago). I used to be a sponsor on ls1tech.com and plating was a service I offered... these guys were the place I used for outsourcing. They will coat the plastic with an aluminized coating... which is what the chrome will adhere to.

These guys will plate your existing LS1/6 manifold and it will be perfect... the downside is that it's a 5-6 week turn around time. The work can potentially last a lifetime though...
