of the "accessory port" inside the console? I'm working my way down to disconnect the "PARK" solenoid and I can't get the connector off. My '98 connector is not like the pics in the vett essentials instructions. It has no tab or anything to depress. My guess is I just need to use a little more force but I don't want to break the plastic connector.
Are you referring to this one? I use a small screwdriver to release it. Maybe your's was rotated 180 deg. by someone in the past and the tab's not visible.

Thanks in advance!
I have a '98 as well and have to replace/disconnect the PARK selenoid as well. The dealer wants $140 for the solenoid so I may just disconnect it. I viewed the vett essentials instructions to replace the shifter boot. So I'm good till there. I "need" a picture of the solenoid and what to disconnect. Will you snap a few pictures and email me at Hawnhog@hawaii.rr.com? Mahalo, DJ
Its easier to take the whole thing out first. There are two tabs that hold it in. You rotate it one way and get one of them out then turn it 180 degrees and the other comes out. Then its much easier to unplug.
I'll try removing the port and shoot a couple pics tomorrow.........
Mahalo! I "think" I know what to look for.....

and mahalo to you for that bit of advice.
I think one of my main concerns is to R&R the shifter boot. I understand that there are two tabs that are hard to remove and easily broken.
I finally got the connector off the accessory port with a little force. After that the job was a piece of cake thanks to several advisory and re-assuring emails from "Big Hank". After I had the shifter boot off I noticed that there is a 6-8 inch pigtail from the solenoid to a free standing connector just in front of the shifter boot. That's where I dis-connected because it's easier to reach. With that being said the dis-connect can be done without pulling up the boot if all the C5s are alike. That would eliminate the chance of breaking the little tabs holding it on.
I went to a friends shop where he had just dis-mantled a wrecked '99. ( I bought the interior parts for a "song") and we looked at the shifter assembly. The surround holding the shifter boot is held in place by four pinch clips. No need to remove the boot from it. (anyway that's the way he did it. Of course the whole shifter assembly was removed as a unit... That may make a difference. The good news is he had the service manuals (3) and we found the R & R instructions for the solenoid. As he won't be needing the solenoid (he bought the wreck just for the drivetrain which he is installing in his '56 chevy) I'll just replace mine with the one he has. Just got to find the right time to do it as my other car is in the body shop...
