Default Set up advice

OK, I drive my coupe semi daily (if that makes any sense) but like to 1/4 every so often. I had a LS1 with a fairly mild aftermarket cam and am looking for something else to drop in the LS6 now in the car. Ideally, i would like to start pulling strong under 3000 rpm and continue from there to 6200 rpm. Generally speaking, it seams like when you step up to push more air flow your power curve is above what i am looking for. While the baby cam started pulling early, it did not come near satisfying what i am looking for.
Any ideas? Perhaps a head/cam package with higher set of gears would get me there. your comments are welcomed and appreciated.
Thx,

ps. been looking for an excuse to get some gears (thinking 3.90's)

3.90's would be an excellent place to start!

Gears with heads/cam and LT headers would be a really nice setup. That or go with a supercharger.
