I really wanted to do something that would make my Z06 mine. So a mod was the best thing I could think of. I know that long tube headers are better. Remember I have the big time Hot Rod 72 Camaro with a 383 Stroker already. I just wanted to do a project that wasn't to hard and would look better and make it my own. I bought a set of JBA (I know there are better) shorty headers on the bay for a really good price of $181 shipped (new). I also wanted new plugs and some GMPP red wires. Everything went in well with no major problems. Now I'm ready to do the TI muffler mod next.
not everything is about horsepower. If I want HP I will drive my other car. My post was about a 57 year old guy installing a set of shorty headers in his garage. Heck I was happy with myself before your post. By the way here's my other drive.

I'm polishing every nut and bolt of my LS6.... the labor is hell on Earth.
Installing shorties on a weekend sounds like much more fun.
I took the heads off last night. After pulling off the oem manifolds, staring at the rusted lumps on the ground as I drank a cold beer... I thought to myself how nice the oem primaries flow together. Not a bad factory design I must say considering the manifolds of yesteryear.
In the end -You gained a bit of horsepower, ceramic coating, added new plugs, wires, and had some fun with your Corvette. American as apple pie & 4th of July.

Reason: iPhone typing sux
He just wanted to share what he spent his weekend doing. Wrenched on his car. Nothing wrong with that.
"make it our own". I can attest to that with every car/truck i have owned.

Maybe you didn't get a lot of power, but you got them for less than $200. They're lighter, and they look better. Not a total waste IMHO.
People spend a lot more than $200 for purely cosmetic mods that gain absolutely NO horsepower...... and yet people don't call them names
Any mention of shorty headers sure brings out the venom on this forum
I installed a set of B&B shorty headers to offset some of the weight of my supercharger, to stay CARB compliant, and cause I like the look of headers......... And I paid a bunch more than $200....
Paul 75 L82........ Congrats to you for doing a mod that you liked and doing it yourself.
Posts deleted /modified as needed........Pms sent to those that need it.
Be wise for those with deleted post to read da rules: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/foru...and-rules-109/
Also, hit the red triangle under a users name to notify the mods of issues...........we can handled it quicker.
Thanks for getting rid of that %%$$@#&'s remarks. That's the reason I stay away from this forum. There's some folks on here that have WAY TOO MUCH NEGATIVE to say about everything and anything without any substance. They are so full of themselves cause they own a Vette...
Hey Paul, good job man!! I'll be that other jag doesn't even change his own oil... It probably never occurred to him that shortys are the only thing legal in some places!
Nice job with the shorties/wires. I was thrilled that my 01 with just shorties made 360/364 and has run 12.1@118. They are a worthwhile mod, and hell for $181 they are worth the weight savings and looks improvement.
FWIW
I will tell you this,
The B&B shorties that came on my 00' vert put off a lot of heat near the #5 plug.
The AIR tube is there. I race mine so............
#5 plug wire comes apart in less than 2 years for me......w/o koolsox.
You will get a miss!
thanks guys for all of the good words. A 57 year old man thats 6ft and 240lbs installing shorties in the garage in a weekend is a fair task. That's good advice on the kool sox, I will get some of them ASAP.
