Default Getting Hard

It is sometimes getting hard to slip the shifter into first gear at red lights on my 2000 with 50,000 miles. Is there a simple "linkage" adjustment?
Am I heading towards trouble?
Thanks

Hard to say - you could have a bent shift fork. When did you last have the transmission fluid drained and refilled?

Move your seat up so that you are sure to have the clutch all the way to the floor.

Set the gears by shifting into second and than into first.

I had the same problem a few times when I glided to a stop in neutral and then I couldn't shift into any gears when the light turned green. Now, I always shift into 2nd and then into 1st now when I am coming to a stop. Once I know that I can get it into 1st at a stop, I'll slip it into neutral until the light is about to change. It has worked so far.
