I did not time it, but the initial jump from a dead stop was much better and I can just tell that it's pulling a lot harder in the lower rpm range. Before, it felt real boggy right off the line until it got up to about 2000 rpms then it would start pulling hard. Now, it's pulling hard right off the line.

.
The screens at CorvetteMods are not the better ones with the frames like the Z06 screens from GM, The ones I found on the site are just stamped metal, I see why you got 40% off.
This is what the good ones look like.
I ended up pulling my vararam back off and sealing it up with silicone. I also completely redesigned the gasket in between the filter and intake tubes. Now that it is air tight the car sounds better and i don't ge tthat constant sucking sound from air leaks. The car runs better too I believe.
You are very correct when you say that the fit and finish isn't the best. Somebody is making a killing. There is not much to them, and to get to start the process was probably a tad expensive. After that, they are home free molding these things and selling them. I have an old Corvette magazine from about 10 years ago with an ad in the back that has them advertised at $499

I just did this the other day. When I had my car up on a lift I noticed that the foam that came with the wonderfully put together vararam () had been hanging out dangling in the air and also creating a gap where the unit was sucking unfiltered air!
I went to home depot and got some foam for plumbing and cut it to make a makeshift foam barrier which was a roal pain in the ***. I think a few weekends down the line I'll seal it up with silicone--that's a fantastic idea.
BTW, my filter was dirty as hell and i only had the thing in there for like 3 or 4 months! I also have the screens which give me a little piece of mind.
It is simply an air duct guys!It doesnt need to be made of cast iron nor be completely sealed except for the filtering part. You must have an early model as no one I know who runs it have any of those problems.Perhaps installer error.
Hey, doesn't it defeat the purpose to get the Vararam then block most the air getting to it with those screens?
Then De-screen your MAF
I was in a hobby a long time ago with something and it seemed everyone replaced all the carbon parts with metal parts and all metal parts with carbon parts for exactly opposite reasons.

What I would like to know is, why could they not make the ducts fit the holes better? They had a good mold with the piece that came out of the hole. And why did it have to be 2 pieces on each duct? They are put together rather flemsy.
Oh ,I agree a duct made in perhaps the way the brake ducts are would be much better, but also much more expensive.Since they are completely hidden and do the job I dont worry about it.

That's just it, they aren't hidden. When you stand backyou can see them and they look like chit. The screens are a must.
