Default Code for ZO6

I maybe possibly buying a 01 ZO6 tomorrow, was wondering if there is a certain code I could check to make sure it's a TRUE ZO6. I mean I have a 00 Camaro SS that I'll be trading in and the SS as a WU8 code that distinguishes it as an SS. For the ZO6 does it say "ZO6" on the code list? Or have a certain code? I'm so pumped found a zo6 in my budget, wish me luck fellas haha.

Z06 isn't an RPO code. On my list of of RPO codes there's no Z06 listed. The ways to check if it's a real Z06, though are pretty simple. All Z06's have an M12 transmission, so a very simple way is to check the RPO codes for "M12". The RPO codes can be found in the glove compartment. If there isn't an M12 RPO code, then it's not a Z06 because no other Corvette trim got an M12. Coupes and Verts got a MN6 transmission.

Other ways to spot a Z06:

Obviously, if it's a fixed roof coupe made after 99, it's a Z06. But of course someone could in theory pay to have that changed... OK... So... Look for the 8.4mm front windshield. On the bottom passenger side of the front windshield it will say the thickness of the windshield. I'm pretty sure that the Z06's have 8.4mm.

The next thing is the antenna. Unless it was changed by the previous owner, Z06's came with fixed-mast antennas, not automatic antennas.

If there's a keyhole on the passenger door, it's not a 2001+. They stopped putting the key lock on the passenger side door in 2001. So all FRCs with a keyed lock on the passenger side are 99's.

There's the obvious stuff like the side and front scoops/grills, the red fuel rail covers, MUST be a 6-speed, etc...

01 Z06's didn't come with the HUD so if it's an 01 with a HUD, it was put it by an owner, or it's an 01 converted to a FRC.

The Z06s don't have a telescoping steering wheel. So if the wheel telescopes, it's not a Z06.

The Z06's all came with red calipers. The brakes are all the same between all the trims of Corvette, except the Z06's red calipers. Aside from that, they're the same.

Z06's have larger tailpipe tips. I believe 3" but I could be wrong about that. The coupe/vert has smaller oval shaped tips while the Z06 has larger circular tips.

The gauges have a black light (That's right... BLACK light) so they light up purple-ish which looks very cool at night. The tach also has a Z06 on it as do the seats.

If you go through the gauges on the DIC, you should NOT see the tire pressure read-outs. I don't know if this was only Z06s, but I've seen the option in coupes, but never in Z06s.

The Z06's all had a fixed suspension, not the ride-adjustable shocks. If you have a ride adjustment dial on the center console, it's not a Z06.

If all else fails, just do a carfax on the VIN, it will say it is a Z06.

Oh, and good luck!

Very easy to tell from the VIN.

8th charater has to be an "S".

S is for the LS6. Only the Z06 had the LS6.

There was a 2000 FRC also that is not a Z06.

Wow very informative, thanks, thanks to others that helped out here as well, much appreciated. That was what I was after, I knew there were difference in the codes. M12 is a good way to check then as well as "S" on the vin.

Well the car is gone. : ( They tried to pull a fast one on me. They said it was there over the phone and then tried to persuade me on a regular hatch back C5 once I arrived. They said it was just as nice, psssssh YEAH RIGHT! So I told them nicely to get lost and I left.

Sucks, I was so close. I'm thinking of going for a fixed roof coupe if I can't seem to find another C5Z, My ballpark range is 18K, I'm in school still so I don't want a loan. Maybe getting a FRC is a good way to break into vettes (this will be my first) and then after school I can get the big bad ZO6. God I want a ZO6 tho.

You want a z06, then get a z06. You can find several in the 18k range. Mileage will be 50-60k+ and most likely an 01-02 model but there is nothing wrong with that.

Do it right the first time and get what you really want. You don't want that "still not a z06" thing going around in your head. I know i would be that way even if i had a 900rwhp FRC.

Also despite what people say you would spend a pretty good amount on an FRC to get it to z06 specs or better and you will be up and over 18k by the time it's done. It would be cheaper still to just start out with a Z06.

I know that when you're passing people at crazy high speeds it looks like they're slowing down and even going backwards at times, but that's not the flux capacitor!

Either way, only the DMC 12's came with the flux capacitor standard... Which was required because those cars were so slow they needed time travel to get somewhere on time.
