A4 to 6 spd ?
Really getting board with my car 8 years and counting . my car has a real sentimental value to me , so getting another is really not an option . who out there has converted there car from an A4 to a 6 spd . if you had it all to do over would you do it again . I know the best way is to get some one with a 6 spd who wants an auto to swap parts . RPM has done this what are the costs . you will need a new clutch what else . thanks for your ideas and wisdom
There was a similar thread last week...do a search, you should find it. Most will advice you that the hassle is too big. It's probably best to sell your Vette and get a 6 speed.
I turned 30 today (11-26-79)
When I'm 70 and shifting my '01Zo6 becomes a problem, I'll not look to "sell it and buy an auto"
So the car means a lot to you, I understand. I have a friend with an '05 A4 C6 Zo6 clone with the baddest 3 pc wheels and there's no way he can just sell and buy a 6speed.
He got a quote of $3000 to convert it to an M6 by a Corvette shop in Atlanta. That would be using some of his current parts as cores (tranny) to help offset the cost of the rest.
If you decide to pull the trigger. I would ship the car to a reputable shop that has experience... Don't try it yourself using your local mechanic for the lift, etc.
why do all you guys say that? he already said the car has sentimental value and he doesnt want to buy a 6 speed. what did u miss there?
also need clutch master/slave& line in addtion to parts mentioned.
not sure on other parts in the drivetrain as ive never encountered a transaxle setup car before the vette

The replies should be helpful to the OP. Even though the car has sentimental value and he does not want to sell, unless that is an absolute position, hearing the cost and trouble of converting can help him make the trade-off that is right for him.
Johnny aint sellin that car it has real value to him... There is a guy in the area Ill dig up his forum name who has a supercharged c5 coupe and converted to auto from 6spd, so im sure goin the other way cant be much harder. I cant remeber which shop he said did it ill try and dig it up for you
You guys beat me to it. I really hate when people throw stuff out there that completely goes against what the OP has already said he's NOT going to do. People that say things like "just sell it and buy an auto" are chumps that take the easy way to things.
To the OP, I have looked into putting Z06 stuff into my car a couple times. It doesn't seem like it would be all that bad. Especially if you can find someone to trade parts with. There are a lot of guys looking to go to an auto for consistancy at the strip. Contact ECS and they can give you a ton of info. Good luck if you decide to do this. I'd love to see it.

had i owned my car for only a few months i wouldnt have any problems selling or trading it for a M6. but now 3 years down the road it wont even cross my mind..i wish there was a thread that listed all the parts and how much labor is involved in doing the swap

put some power in it and u will be happy 6 speeds are ok for stock vettes big power u need a auto
Seems to me if your BORED w/ it, adding power would be more fun than hacking it up just to put in a 6 speed. For the money you'd spend on the trans conversion you could add some nice power that you won't be BORED with.

the car has a cam headers 3:90 gears and 2800 stall its a blast to drive more power and the gears need to be changed . I know Rodney of RPM has done this conversion a few times . if as stated above some one wanted to convert there 6spd to a A4 that most of the cost would be labor . this car was bought on the 2 year anniversary of the death of my wife . she always wanted me to have a vette . so I would never sell it . yea I could S/C it and it would be a blast but I really want a 6spd .
Call up Rodney at RPM Transmissions. They have done this several times and know what all is involved. They will be able to give you a definite answer on what all is involved and pricing. The best case scenario would be for you to find someone who is looking to do an M6 to A4 conversion and both of you drop your cars off at RPM. That way you'll both save some money, and you'll both know it was done right... Good luck.

Yea Johnny, just give Rodney a call Monday....they have actually been doing these swaps for a few years now. When I had my clutch and Tranny done there 2 years ago, they were doing a conversion on an A4. Probably be pretty pricey but for sure doable. The key of course will be swapping parts wtih someone like you said. I am thinking will be at least between 3-5k to swap, but I could be off. Let me know what they .
manual vettes are so easy to drive in traffic its not even funny
2nd gear can be used for an entire day if need be and u dont even need to touch the gas pedal to get going from a start
auto vette? hahaha
