Default Drive belts noises

A coupe of my club members c-5's are squealing like pigs under the hood, the noise seam to be come from the drive belts. Could it be the ilder pulleys? Has anyone experience this problem, if so what is the corrective action.

first replace the belt.
If the sound does not go away replace the idler pulley.
This is an issue for a lot of folks Inc me.

Make sure they check the a/c belt not just the big serpentine belt!

Replace with a Goodyear Gatorback belt.. Many users have had excellent success with this belt.

If you DO replace, do both the idler and the tensioner.

Also take a look at the harmonic balancer while the engine is at idle and see if there is any wobble in it and that all of the belt is in the proper grooves.

Most also do the 'chirp' at idle on a cool morning for whatever thats worth.

Good Luck ----->

Mine just started this until it warms up then it quits. I was going to start with the belt and then go from there.

Could be belt, pulleys or a problem with the tensioner.

here is what you do.
there are two belt systems
the drive belt system and the ac belt system,
start the car and make it squeal..shut the car down,
Then remove the brive belt. Start her up again and see if she still squeals..
it wont hurt anything.
you will get some codes but you can reset them,..,
if the squeal is gone then its your belt drive system or something in that system, tensioner, powersteeing pump, alternator, water pump, idler pulley.
if the squeal is still there then its the ac belt system, compressor clutch, balancer, tensioner, idler pulley.
you can take off this belt to make sure the sound goes away..and verify its this belt system..
Once you determine which belt system is at fault you can use stethoscope to determine which component is singing. if you can not determing which component is singing then its the belt...

I replaced my drive belt only today and it fixed mine, no more noise . My old belt looked fine I couldn't see anything wrong with it.

Follow E-T directions but then hand spin all the pulleys. They should spin freely and not wobble or feel gritty. If they don't spin , feel gritty or wobble that is your culprit.

I had a belt nose that was louder than my car. First step i took was change the belt to the gattor back from goodyear cause thats what everyone said to do. Then i changed both tenstioners and still was making the nose. Brought it in the shop to get fixed and my belt was miss aligned. I am pretty sure that it was the power steering pump that was causing it but i cant remember for sure. My suggestion would be to change the belt to the gattor back belt. If it starts making nose i would check and make sure all the pulleys are aligned. The best thing about the gator back belt is they gaurentee them for life
