My boss has a 99 C5 and he's going to trade it in for a new Camaro. He has the stock size Eagle F1 tires on it and only has about 500 miles on them. He has the 265/40/17 on the front and the 295/35/18 on the rear. My 02 Z has the stock tire size on the front but I have 315/30 18on the rear. Mine are the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 but they are probally about 50% wore. He told me if I paid for the switch I could have his tires before he trades. What does the 315/30 18's on the rear do for me over the stock sizes? What do you guys think? Should I do it?

I don't think the 315/30 does much for you other than maybe looks (is the side wall a little slimmer vs 295/35)? What really matters for dry traction is the age of the rubber. If your rubber is 2 or more years older I would make the switch--the newer will grip better. In rain, the tread depth is obviously VIP and there I suspect you will also get a free upgrade.
The look of a tire on the rim and on the car is also a factor--make sure you like the GY look. There are plenty of tires I consider too ugly in design for street use--I prefer a bold agressive look.
If you are swaping OEM size 265/40-17 ( 25.4 inches diameter) fronts and 315/30-18 rear (25.5 inches diameter ) then you will have a problem traction/active handling issues.
you'll need 1/2 inch plus stagger between the front tires and rears as in the OEM stagger 265/40-17 with 25.4" dia. and 295/35-18 with 26.1" dia.
