Anyone know why they do not do EBMC's for vets prior to 01?? I just sent them an E-mail,,but who knows when I'll get a reply,,,and I'm a bit on the impatient side!! Inquiring minds want to know!! My 2000 FRC's EBCM is on the fritz,,,and a new module from a dealer is around $640-$650 vs (from what I've read here) around $150-$200!! Any other alternatives out here???
As I understand it, the late model EBCM's ('01-'04) have a relay that goes bad and is easily replaced. The early model does not have the relay and usually fries the circuit board.

Well "fried" probably describes mine,,,Mine worked fine till lightning struck about 8 to 10 feet away,,,then "SERVICE ABS,,TRACTION CONTROL,, and ACTIVE HANDLING "!!Got it traced back to the EBCM,,and spent over $180 on that,,looking for an affordable fix. Have since found a thread and see it isn't difficult to remove the module. NOW if I can find a fix or affordable unit!!
I have read in many posts that the EBCM for the pre 2001 C5 is not repairable. That matches what others have said in this thread. If that is indeed accurate then it seems you have 2 choices:
1) Buy a new one.
2) buy a used one from an auto recycler.
For what it is worth there may be issues as to which part number you actually need. Here is a recent thread that eludes to that issue:
Based on the issues in this thread I would be very hesitant to buy the one on the big auction site referenced in an earlier post unless you can verify in advance that it is actually the one you require. While it may be a little less expensive than what you might pay say Gene Culley or Fichner Chevrolet, you likely stand a better chance of returning a wrong part with them than you do some Fleabay seller......... Just my 2 cents. Good luck in geting the car repaired.
