I see these "C5 Smooth Couplers" around in the catalogs, Claiming 5 hp increase, which I think is as close non-existant as possible. So my question is : Are they worth the price? I've seen prices from $59.00 to $42.00. What do you think ?
Thank you guys. On days were it's snowing or raining I get these "bright Idea's" and it's so great to have a library of wisdom like you gents to listen to. Thank you and Have a wonderful holidays season !
One of the first changes I made to the Z06. Did not offer any HP gains that I know of, but it did improve the idle. Also the smooth coupler looks a lot nicer than the accordian one it came with. I think Chip,at CCA, has a special on these. Check with him and see.
I was thinking of getting one of the smooth air couplers a while ago, but then just decided that it was not worth it...5hp......and Turbo stickers give you an extra 150hp.
Mostly for looks,,what they don't mention that after a few pulls on a dyno,,with a stock ECM,,the computer starts adjusting air fuel ratios to run wot. For a while it will pick up HP & TQ each pull. Considering they probably do a few base line,,then several after the install it can easily show a gain of 5 HP. Trouble is as soon as you start doing regular street driving,,it starts relearning the OLD parameters and those gains are gone. They are not lying,,but not exactly telling the truth either.Same for Cat back claims. They used my car in a dyno display and did 13 pulls through the day. Went from 323.8 horses to 338.9!! Ran great for a few days!!Couple of days later,,finished a night at test and tune with a 13.08/110.24. Later,,never got closer than 13.1+ and 13.2's to those original numbers!!But at least I can say i had a best of 13.08/110.24,,,just don't have to say it was LAST YEAR!!

I was gonna buy one for the looks. Mostly cause the normal red would go nicely with Torch Red. Never did. But for very little more I did buy a Vararam air bridge that moved the MAF and uses the smooth hoses. So if there is a gain from smoothing out your airflow I got that and the gain, if any, from the air bridge. What I did see was a smoother idle.
