Default P0455 Code - Gas Cap

Guys:

Sorta funny how I got this code...

I filled my Z06 with gas on Nov 7th. I had to travel out of state for work the rest of the month (Z06 in garage at home). I take it out for a cruise when I get back home. My car is a weekend warrior and a few weekends it rained here in Dallas earlier this month, so it did not make it out of the garage. So today I get the car out cruising to our weekly Corvette GTG. After our GTG I start the car and get a code "P0455". I reset it and go home. Searched on here about this code and folks say that the car looks to make sure that the gas tank does not have a pressure leak. They say to check the gas cap. I go out and check my gas cap and find that I'm able to turn it a full 1/4 turn before it clicks. I ALWAYS click it multiple times when I fill my car with gas.

I guess with the temperature fluctuations here in Dallas recently (15F-70F), and the fact I have not filled it in 6 weeks that it must have worked it self loose...

Oh well... I'm glad it was an easy fix thanks for this forum ! ...

I checked the seal on the cap a little while ago (when i found the cap loose). It had a little dirt ring on there that I cleaned off. Other than that the seal looks good. I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks

At least it was a very easy problem to solve and fix.

Sometimes the seals stick and roll over when the cap is removed. This in turn will throw the code when the ECM checks the fuel system for pressure integrity. Check the seal to make sure it lays down flat. I'd spray it with silicone lube as well to prevent it from sticking in the future.
