If it was necessary, or more effective, GM would have used it. However, if it was me, I'd refill the transmission with RP ! Z-max and any of the TV miracle oils are just Hype and most fools chase after 'Miracle Oils'. . . Junk.

I agree except, isn't Royal Purple sort of in the same boat? I mean, they don't meet the GM specification for transmission fluid or engine oil. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. I would never use Z-max but, why are the boutique oils such as Amsoil or RP any better than a good quality GM approved oil? I am not trying to start an argument but I am curious about what makes RP so much better and why don't they seek GM approval?

PS: It's my aerospace way of thinking since in my field, it's all about meeting specification first and foremost.

The best I can tell,,R P is just another brand of high quality synthetic oil products. It cost a ton of money to get the GM certification,,and probably is not cost effective for a relatively small company. The thing about RP is it has a good track record,,,literally and figuratively!!! Car Craft magazine did a dyno test on a carburetor car(no computer stuff) and then did a full RP change( oil tranny and diff). As I recall gained something like 8 to 10 horses. A lot of racers swear by it,,and haven't heard of anyone swearing at it. Run it in my tranny and rear,,no complaints!! Not a fanatic,,but I am satisfied!!

I am sure that it is an excellent oil and has a good reputation among users but I still don't understand why they don't seek GM approval. I don't buy the argument that it costs a ton of money. I'm sure that they spend way more money on advertising and sponsoring various events. How can a performance oil not want approval for Corvette which, let's not forget includes the ZR-1? That would be the best advertising of all, don't you think?
