Buying Advice Needed
Hi,
I'm looking at a 2000 C5 Manual with lots of goodies and everything works. It's in good condition. Might need a little interior work. The car has been in 2 minor accidents and the mileage is 95k. I can get the car for 11,500. Does this sound like a good deal? The car even has heads up display. There are a few concerns. The car has no plates or insurance so how would I test drive it and get it checked out by a dealer? Also, at 94k the car is close to 100k which seems to make most cars a pariah. Should I look for a lower mileage car or should I take the plunge. There is a C4 with auto and 39k locally for around 6k but it doesn't have the better engine, new design, 50/50 weight ratio and its an auto. I decided I need a manual. Thanks in advance.

94K would be too many miles for me.

As for the car what is "lots of goodies"?
At 95k with 2 accidents on the books and in need of interior work I would say $11,500 is on the high end unless it has justifiable aftermarket "goodies"...
I would be aiming more towards 10K as described...

It has Diablo rims, new tires, heads up display, manual, and a few other options but I can't think of them right now. The car looks to be in good condition. The interior isn't snotted just some light cracks in the interior which seems common for this model year. I would want to make the seats look like new since the light cracking would bother me. I'm going to see it next week. All I have is pics. Electric blue looks good too. I'm thinking that I'll have to spend 14-15k for a low mileage 97-00

It's a kind iffy maybe call.IF the motor passes a compression check,,the clutch holds tight and there are no unusual sounds from the motor bottom end ,tranny or rear end,,,I'd say it would be worth dickering over. Don't think I'd go full price for it. This is predicated on the assumption you are planning on keeping it and driving it for a considerable period of time. With high miles plus what you add,,it's future value will not be very high!!!

Not saying it's not worth it, but I would certainly try and bargain down closer to $10K, mostly based on the mileage and accidents...
If you watch Ebay, 1997-1999 cars fall like a rock into the $8K-9K range as soon as they crest 100K miles, you are not that far away with 94K...
As for $14K-15K for a lower mileage one yeah, but you will be getting a car with 1/2 - 2/3 the mileage that is significant IMO...

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to look at the car since it's local to see what is up. 100k does seem like the number that scares potential buyers away and I doubt I would keep the car forever. I'm sure I'd want to trade at some point-maybe not but I would want that option.

I wouldn't touch it.
Be patient you could do better.
If you insist on this car, I would say that money talks and this guy is not going to be bombarded with offers for this car. Be patient and low ball him. Try $8,000,flash the cash at him and if he doesn't bite walk away.

If someone flashes cash infront of me, when I am seelling something it does nothing to me... If I am asking 11k for something and someone shows me 8k, I would hold out until they find the other 3 k...
Far as the miles it is no big deal.. These cars can get 300,000 miles out of them that being said you still have over 200 k that you may be able to get.
I would look at it test drive it if possisible and go by your gut feeling... If you can afford the car and you like it go for it.... Holding out for a car that may never come is worth less... You can always do your own mods to make it the car you want... I would be shocked if you sell the car soon anyways... best of luck

I can't believe no one has said this yet. buy the newest, lowest mileage vette your budget allows. if you are ready to spend $15k, move on and BE PATIENT!!!! keep looking and you will find a beauty for that price. as far as the c4 goes-don't, just don't.
good luck with he search.
