Default Instrument panel lights

I have an 01 Vette and today the lights started acting up and I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas as to a cause. When you start th ecar all of the instrument lights seem to work correctly but a little dim When the headlights come on all of the instrument lights go off. When th eheadlights go off all of the other lights come back on. When you turn the key the instrument lights get really bright compared to what they were before turning off key. This just started today that I know off. I checked all of the fuses and they seem OK. Checked all of the car lights,(headlights, parking lights and fog lights) and they are all working. Anyone have a clue as what could be wrong or what I could check?

Did you check the dimmer **** and make sure it is turned up?
Just a thought. To the left of the steering wheel, A button **** that you push and it comes out so you can turn it.

It could be your multi-function switch (turnsignal switch). To replace they are anywhere from $150-$250 depending on where you buy. You can get them through your local parts store. It's something of a PTA to remove and replace. There are threads on how to do it.

Well Mr. Bill don't I feel like a total ***. Never used that switch before but you were right. Turned it and as they say "let there be light". Thanks for the fix. Like I said I have never used that switch because the car hasn't been driven at night before the other day. Again thanks
