Ok ladies and gentlemen, I need some serious help with this one. I have a 2000 M6 coupe with 112,117. Each time i take off in 1st gear I hear a "thud" that sounds like its coming from either between the seats or behind the driver. When I slow down to stop I hear the same thing. Once i'm moving and get past the "thump" there is no more noise. A buddy of mine says its the Torque Tube Bushing. I trust the guy (even though he was a Ford guy b4 he got his Vette), cause he knows cars. But I wanted other opinions. If it is the TTB how difficult would it me to replace or how much should it cost me?
Thanks people and advise you could provide would be greatly appriecated.

The good news is, TT bushings are fairly cheap. The bad news is that the 8 hours (min) to do it, isn't. It's not terrible to do it yourself.
There is a good chance its the torque tube bushings. i removed some from a car that has 120000 miles on it and i was suprised they were still held together! it depends on how the car was driven. some go bad earlier than others. the bushings are 60 a piece but the labor is what kills ya.

Thanks NassauCoupe99. I hope its that. I will be ordering the bushings soon and tackling them myself. Wish me luck.

Does anyone have a how-to?
Not so sure on the exacts, but I know for sure, the whole rear suspension needs to come down. Are you replacing both bushings as there is one in the front and in the rear. This is a BIG job my friend, I wish you luck. you'll def need more than your self for this job. The torque tube is all connected with the tranny and the differential in our cars.

As far as torque tube disassembly, hopefully someone will chime in with a how-to for that.
Once the drivetrain is out,I THINK the torque tube's not too difficult, but there is a big snap ring in there that's supposed to be a real pain to remove.
I've done the drivetrain removal twice in the last 2 months, and it can be done by one person,as long as that person has the time and the patience.
I didn't have enough patience the first time, that's why I had to do it the second time...be CAREFUL with that pilot bearing when reinstalling things
If your gunna take it apart i would suggest doing both of them and getting it over with all at once so you dont have to do it again for a long time. your gunna need to remove the rear end and tranny. I used a lift to do it when i helped do one. we made a jig and disconnected the entire drivetrain from the body. but we did that becasue we were puting in a new motor as well. I've never done it on the floor.
Man i was drooling looking at this pic, living in toronto and having a 2 car garage than u had to be friggin rich or lucky folks who bought thier bigger homes with 2 car garage prolly 20 years ago, owning 2 car garage is like buying a ferrari.
