As a self proclaimed apple hater (way too over priced), has anyone hooked up a Zune to their stock Bose head unit? If anyone knows where an install guide or adapters can be found please let me know.
Has anyone ever had an auxiliary input jack installed into the factory bose head unit - This would be so cool if it can be done.
I will be doing this shortly, and yes it has been done... Most of the hacks I have seen (Google Search) interrupt the CD output, so the head unit thinks it's playing the CD, and thus you need a CD in the drive and be on the CD setting, you just block the CD output and inject the Mp3 players output instead...
I'm going to crack mine open and have a closer look, the CD hack is simple and definitely a DIY version, but I'm looking for a more elegant hack, possibly reworking the AUX button into functional and interrupting the line just before the amp or what not...
I design and build electronics professionally, so I have a one up on the average DIYer to take it one step further... As it stands I'll probably take a look at my head unit later this week...
I did the hack where you tap into the CD head with a post-jack. When you plug your MP3 cable into the jack it disconnects the CD head and completes a circuit with your MP3 player. You have to have a CD in the player and press the CD button on your radio. It wasn't that difficult but was time consuming. I probably have the threads, pics, etc. if you're up for this mod. You have to tear apart the dash and console, remove the radio, open it up and tap into it with a cable (CAT5 works well). This you run to the post-jack from Radio Shack that you can mount in the console box or, as I did, just under the ashtray.
I have installed a Zune 16GB HD Touch in my 2004 Z06. It required an interface box along with a special adapter harness to connect to the back of the existing control head. I used a cigarrette lighter-to-USB adapter/charger to power the unit while in the center console.
You select Aux on the control head and the interface simulates a CD changer connection on Disk 1 Track 1. Unfortunately, you have to control the funtions from the Zune itself, but the music is flawless.
I had to drill a hole in the forward end of the center console to route the wires into the area. I simply lift the lid and select what playlist I want to hear and hit the road!
Don't leave the USB charger plugged in when the car is not in use. It will slowly drain the battery if you do. Have fun.
If you can make this work, please post or send me an message. I currently have an MP3 jack inplace of the CD Changer. I would like to be able to use the AUX and not the internal CD.
Thanks, Rich

I have the Aux2car setup w/ the wiring harness adapter mentioned above w/ my 02 Z06, plugged right into the back of the factory radio (didn't have a CD changer). Works awesome IMO.
I went the DIY route w/ my previous 99 TA and did the mod to override the CD output w/ the factory radio. Same procedure as it would be w/ the Vettes I believe. Worked OK, but the little jack I got from radio shack wasn't the best quality. When I would plug in the audio cable from the Zune I usually had to wiggle/twist the cable a bit to get a solid connection otherwise I'd have static. Little annoying compared to the flawless operation of the aux2car setup.

Yep; that is what I did for my 20bg Neo MP3 player (which I will be selling soon due to a head-unit upgrade).
front mounted control head:
main chassis in the same location as the Delco CD changer:
With this adapter - you don't have to take the radio out. But there is some minor expense involved. The PIE GM10-AUX adds a L/R Aux in; in-place of the factory external CD changer.
Granted, modifying the head unit with a switching jack is practically free (mostly all labor) - but R&R'ing the radio is not a 10 minute project.
