I want headers soooo bad on my 97'. But I'm in California as well. Not gonna do long tubes if I'm gonna fail smog and have to deal with putting the oem manifolds back on everytime I need to smog it.I have also been told by some of the tuners on this site that shorties are a waste of money. That only the long tube headers produce more HP.

Doug's is a well recognized brand. Installation should be straightforward without any of the headaches that can come with parts made by no-name companies or knock-offs. They come with all the hardware pictured on our product page (that includes high quality gaskets).
As for the question about fitting a '97, you'd want Doug's PN D3331 - that's our sku c21001. They have very specific fitments for the C5s, and I'm happy to help you find the right part for your 'Vette.
And in case you didn't know - we also offer free shipping on everything, every day (obviously that includes headers). They can be a little on the expensive side to ship - but if you're in the lower 48 standard shipping is 100% free door to door.

And last but not least - I should also mention - we offer a 6% discount to all CF forum members. All you need to do is PM me for the code.
And I'm going to avoid the shorty versus long tube header argument ... but I will hide behind Dougs R&D and point out that they say their shorties are better for clearance than their own long tubes, I will also point out that their long tubes are not CARB certified while their shorties are. So - take from that what you will.
How would you compare your Dougs product with the BBK's you sell for $100 less?
Just bought my C5 so pretty tapped out, but I'm thinking even shorty headers with GHL bullets would be an affordable improvement!
did you know that link to corvetteguys.com says for LT1 in the description? obviously a typo, it clearly says for LS1 in the title...just thought I'd point that out.
Anything that changes the placement of the cats from their original position is in violation of the CARB rules. That's why no long tubes have CARB numbers, but shorties can qualify to get a CARB number. If a manufacturer could figure out how to get a CARB # for long tubes in Calif., it would be well worth the expense... but it hasn't happened
I HAVE heard of a couple of long tube headers for pick-up trucks have managed to earn a CARB number because the original CATS are farther back in the exhaust chain. But I have never seen them. I suspect it's an urban myth.
Your car MAY have gotten a SMOG certificate, but it didn't pass legally.
