Default Anyone using Doug's shorty headers?

Anyone using these Doug's ceramic shorty headers on their C5? I'm interested in them b/c I live in CA and they are CARB approved. Let me know any feedback and thanks.

I want headers soooo bad on my 97'. But I'm in California as well. Not gonna do long tubes if I'm gonna fail smog and have to deal with putting the oem manifolds back on everytime I need to smog it.
I have also been told by some of the tuners on this site that shorties are a waste of money. That only the long tube headers produce more HP.

Default Shorties

Not true, I picked up 20 HP with my shorties on a stock 2000 LS1. All cars are different though. Anything is better than the stock manafolds.

B&B shorties are good for 10-12 rwhp and are a bit different that most other shorties. They are a step header design with equal length primaries. I'm happy with mine...

Seems to me they would have to be a little better that the stock manifolds!! Yeah they might not be as good as long tubes,,but every little bit helps. A cold air,,shorties and a little more freer flowing cat back,,get a tune and you should get some seat of the pants HP/TQ. Any one by itself,,not mush, the induction or cat back in particular,,,but add all three with a good tune and you should be happy.

I didn't use this brand, but my B&B shorties bolted right up.... just like the stock exhaust manifolds.

If this brand has good quality control, it should be an easy swap.

Good luck.....

Just saw our site mentioned here and thought I'd give some information about these headers.

Doug's is a well recognized brand. Installation should be straightforward without any of the headaches that can come with parts made by no-name companies or knock-offs. They come with all the hardware pictured on our product page (that includes high quality gaskets).

As for the question about fitting a '97, you'd want Doug's PN D3331 - that's our sku c21001. They have very specific fitments for the C5s, and I'm happy to help you find the right part for your 'Vette.

And in case you didn't know - we also offer free shipping on everything, every day (obviously that includes headers). They can be a little on the expensive side to ship - but if you're in the lower 48 standard shipping is 100% free door to door.

And last but not least - I should also mention - we offer a 6% discount to all CF forum members. All you need to do is PM me for the code.

And I'm going to avoid the shorty versus long tube header argument ... but I will hide behind Dougs R&D and point out that they say their shorties are better for clearance than their own long tubes, I will also point out that their long tubes are not CARB certified while their shorties are. So - take from that what you will.

Corvette Guys,
How would you compare your Dougs product with the BBK's you sell for $100 less?
Just bought my C5 so pretty tapped out, but I'm thinking even shorty headers with GHL bullets would be an affordable improvement!

I've been thinking about shorties for a long time! Might be time to pull the trigger.

subbed because I've been thinking about this for a long time also. only reason I've considered shorties instead of long tubes is I love my borla stingers but my car is a DD and I don't want it to be too loud to stand 40 miles round trip each day.

did you know that link to corvetteguys.com says for LT1 in the description? obviously a typo, it clearly says for LS1 in the title...just thought I'd point that out.

Default Long tubes in CA OK???

I recently bought my 2002 Z06 from California. It had lived all its life in Ca. and had the long tube headers on it. It also passed emissions tests in Ca. with the long tubes on it. When I bought the car I asked about the long tubes and was told some brands are legal in Ca. I do not know what make are on the car but they are apparently legal in Ca.

People get their cars smogged all the time with long tube headers, but that is because the tech didn't notice them or let them slide during the visual inspection.

Anything that changes the placement of the cats from their original position is in violation of the CARB rules. That's why no long tubes have CARB numbers, but shorties can qualify to get a CARB number. If a manufacturer could figure out how to get a CARB # for long tubes in Calif., it would be well worth the expense... but it hasn't happened

I HAVE heard of a couple of long tube headers for pick-up trucks have managed to earn a CARB number because the original CATS are farther back in the exhaust chain. But I have never seen them. I suspect it's an urban myth.

Your car MAY have gotten a SMOG certificate, but it didn't pass legally.

FWIW......

I ended up buying a set of the Doug's for my 2000 coupe and having them put in this week, I'll let you know how they fit. I went with them for the price (about $465 after discount) and because they are CARB approved.

Ask your installer if they bolted right up like the stock manifolds. If so, they'd be a good, cheaper alternative to the B&B's.

I love my B&B's, but they are a little expensive.....
