Cold air DEFINITELY helps....
Although you need to mind the reduced traction as well. Seems unfair... you get this extra power but lose traction at the same time.
Last spring, I snuck my Vette out from storage one day when it was cold, clear, and hadn't snowed in a month. I could get to the highway without driving on any snow or ice; the highway itself was bare and dry for 100 miles. It was -8° F that morning.
I'll tell you what, 4th gear pulls felt like 3rd gear pulls; 3rd gear pulls felt like 2nd gear pulls. It was great! Certainly felt a LOT faster than during the summer when we are in the 60's.

cold air = dense air (more oxygen molecules in the same volume, giving you a more powerful combustion)

May be my imagination but I would agree and say yes. Cold crisp air seems to really give a boost.

Cold in NY is definitely good for boost! My ECBM (?) hasn't worked in a year so when I gave it the gas turning left on my way to work this morning I got a good taste of sideways driving. I stayed in it into second and had a blast. Cold tires + Cold air = C5 Drifter!

The 20 degree drop in temps from summer to fall down here was good for a tenth at the track.

My motorcycles over the years would REALLY get a seat of the pants difference
!! the vet kinda makes me get that same feeling!! Combine that with the lesser traction from colder tires and Woopie!!!

The car does perform better in cooler air. Got to love fall and winter for that reason alone.
