I just got back from the Chicago Vettefest, and had to share this to make some of my '01 Z06 buddies feel better. This guy had a real nice '01 Z06, red, with about 4000 mile in the show area. It was for sale with a sign listing it for "$45,000- may negotiate, have to sell this weekend" ! Now this buy is standing there telling a couple that this car is UNDERPRICED at $45k, and as soon as spring breaks they will be running at around 52k for ones like this one. Oh man did I have to turn my head to keep from choking, but guess I now realize I just need to wait till spring if I want to sell mine to get an '02.
And I thought I was optimistic. :)
If that's all the ZO6 gets elsewhere in the country, someone ought to load them all up and ship them to Los Angeles area, and make some money. It is rare to find anyone paying at or under MSRP for new, and common to pay in the range of $60 for a new ZO6. That is assuming one can actually find one. My hunt for black/black took nearly four months. Used '01's are still in the low $50k's, used convertible '01 C5's are even fetching $41,000 at many dealers in the area.
Maybe I just suck as a Vette shopper. I ended up right at MSRP for mine, after a half day of hassling, down from the $62,000 "Dealer Market Value Adjustment" price. In my experience, the average life of any ZO6 (new or used) on showroom floors, is very short, no matter what time of year.
Could be worse, Porsche-o-philes are paying MSRP for a used 996 of any flavor, and waiting for months on orders for new, at $12 to $20 over book.
