Default Key Fob Issue

Hey guys. Just recently purchased a 98 6MN Coupe. The guy I bought it from had the key fob, but said the battery was dead. Why he never invested in a $3 battery is beyond me. Anyways, as soon as I put the new battery in...whenever the key fob is within 10-15 ft of the car after i hit the lock button, the horn continues to honk and the doors lock and unlock on their own every 10 seconds are so. Its really irritating. Any help? Thanks fellas.

Now you see why he never replaced the battery...
I know, No help...
Not sure about the 98, Does it have a passive switch on the fob? if so turn that off.

You can also turn off the horn in the DIC...

Indeed I do now. I'm not sure how to turn off the horn and whatnot, although I've browsed through the various displays. The car didn't come with an owners manual so I'm lost on how to work it. Noob I know. Ugh FML

I have a bad memory, But I will try,

OPTIONS
This button allows you to choose personal options that
may be available on your vehicle, depending on the options
your vehicle is equipped with. Some of these functions
work along with the remote keyless entry transmitter.
When returning to the options menu, the first item of the
options list will always be displayed, not the one you
were last in when you changed buttons.
The following are the options listed under the
OPTIONS button:
Twilight (Optional in United States,
Standard in Canada)
Press the OPTIONS button until TWILIGHT
- OFF
appears on the display, then use the RESET button to
page through the following selections:

TWILIGHT - ON

TWILIGHT - OFF
If you choose TWILIGHT
- ON, press the OPTIONS
button again to display DELAY TIME 1 2 in the DIC.
Use the OPTIONS button to switch between delay time
1 and 2. You can increase the delay time by pressing
button 1 (1 FUEL) or decrease the time by pressing
button 2 (2 GAGES). Each bar is equal to 12 seconds.

Lock and Arm
Press the OPTIONS button until LOCK & ARM
appears on the display, then use the RESET button to
page through the following selections:

LOCK & ARM - OFF

LOCK & ARM - HORN ONLY

LOCK & ARM - LIGHTS ONLY

 LOCK & ARM - HORN & LIGHTS
I have a pdf file of a 2002 owners manual, pm me your e mail and I will send it to you.

Try remating the fob with your car. It's possible that the fob he gave you does not and will not work with your car at all.

Yes, I had the exact same thing happen when I first got my 99...same fob.
What fixed it for me was: Slide the passive switch back and forth vigorously approx. 15 times. This cleans the corrosion off the contact points.
Good luck!

Haha...I'll try that. Once the vigorous back and forth action (what?) is finished, it should be in the OFF position?

Take the fob apart, using rubbing alcohol and a q-tip clean all the contact points. I used soap and water to clean the actual plastic fob and buttons. Of course dry it throughly and piece it back together. This should solve the problem. If you have more issues it may need a solder job.

Here is another link for an owners maual. Did you do the relearn on the Fob. If I don't use the second spare fob for a while, it stops working untill I do the relearn. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...98corvette.pdf Look in section 2 page 12

One method to re-learn - On the FOB, press and hold the lock and unlock button at the same time. Wait until the horn blows. Done

I tried that once before and I still had the same problem. I think I'll give the other one a shot. Thanks

::EDIT::
Did the relearn doohickey and the fob works now. Thanks for all the help fellas!
