Default Door reflector question for LED mod

I am podering adding LEDs strips to my door reflectors. Does anyone know if it is easy to get the red reflector lense off the plastic backing plate? If it is a PIA I will send it out to someone to do the mod.
Thanks a bunch

Are you referring to something like JW Motoring's setup?

I'm really thinking about doing this soon

The JW Motoring Reflectors are a VERY nice setup and pretty much plug and play... The embedded LED strips throw a much cleaner and broad light pattern. Yes the covers have to be removed with a Dremel cut-off wheel or simular tool.

I drilled a hole and press fitted a Superstar LED into the rear of my reflectors, I had done mine way before JW's Tech came up with a much nicer solution and I wanted them mainly for safety reasons when the door was open;

JW's could almost be used for Puddle lights as well!

I would like to try it myself but I am scared about breaking the lense during the separating process. Do they get cut apart or heated and pulled apart like headlight lenses?
Heck once those are apart you can sandwich a ribbon 9 LED strip in there with no problem.
I spent over $400 Thursday on mods and ran out of mod money for the month

let me know if anyone has been able to separate the lenses from the backer plate and how you did it?
Thanks a bunch

During my current interior makeover project I removed one of them easily. At the top there are 2 plastic tabs in the back that will break off if you pull too hard. But the bottom has one metal Tinnerman clip in the center. Stick a flatblade screwdriver behind the lens at the center, and you should be able to wiggle it loose. Use a flashlight to see what you are doing so you don't break anything...there is nothing behind it. Also, it would be very easy to convert over to velcro for this part, or even VHT tape, both of which would allow you to remove them safely in the future.

Jerry is the lense glued in or just pressed in?

Here are some pictures of mine also. One of my favorite mods I have done. People immediately notice them at night and realize it isnt stock. These reflectors also have a connection for puddle light strips built in!

With red puddle lights.

with blue puddle lights.

JW motoring can hook you up!

The lense is glued on very well! Jerry was talking about how to remove the entire reflector from the door panel.

Ok, looks glued...probably with something like cyanoacrylate ('crazy glue')..but, you are in luck. There is a small groove all the way around the assembly, so a Dremel with the cutoff disc would work beautifully at separating; then a simple reglue afterward and you are good to go. If you do this I want to learn from you how it's done as part of my interior makeover, which you are gonna love when it's ready...lot's of new ideas for you guys.

Anyone have a picture of the Red Reflector and White Puddle Light? Wondering is this will look funky (combination) and if I should go Red Puddle to match?

I don't think it would look odd at all! I'm going to have a small strip of Red run up the jamb side of the door and then have White run along the bottom.

I have to get with nascar57 about it as he's the expert on these things!

Puddle lights go under the door and are held on by an adheisive strip on the led. You can install just puddle light but will have to run the wires all the way thru the door and into the rubber boot into the car under the dash and most people splice them into the curstisy lights there. I don't have any pictures of the puddle lights installed but I'm sure someone else does.

Also, on some cars the puddle lights are under the sideview mirrors...a cool place for them and much more functional location, but I haven't seen this on vettes yet...but could easily be done by drilling a small hole under the mirrors, then routing wires along with the factory wiring...somebody do this!
